A Few of My Favorite Things: Michelle Freedberg

The holidays are upon us and to get you in the spirit, we thought we’d share a little shopping inspiration from your friends at Project Nursery. Our team has rounded up the FIVE items they love, cherish, gift or simply can’t live without.

Being in retail I am constantly searching for must have products that I know people will love and won’t be able to live without.  There are so many fabulous items that make my day run smoothly, make my kids smile and help me feel good, that narrowing them down to my top five was no easy task.   However, when it became my turn to share what I truly love the most, I thought these items were just right!

#1.  My Flip Video Camera. I do not leave home without it because I never want to miss a moment and it fits perfectly into any bag.  One of my favorite past times is putting together my home movies, setting them to music or sharing them with friends and family.  I got the Flip when my son was born and have been addicted ever since.

#2. Laura Mercier under eye secret concealer.I know this may seem silly to some, but when your newborn isn’t sleeping, and you are transitioning your toddler from a crib to a bed, your complexion may have seen brighter days.  A dab of this magic concealer brings your eyes back to life, no surgery needed. If I could only have one piece of makeup for the rest of my life it would be this item.  I use it daily and it definitely hides the tired mommy look.

#3. A classic bedtime story. I believe in having rituals with your kids. Something you do daily that stays with them, that they rely on. Every night I climb into bed with my daughter and read with her.  She gets to pick the book on most nights but when I get the privilege of selection, I have one favorite – The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein. I love this book for so many reasons, but mostly because as a mother I often feel like the “tree” of my family. I love reading to my daughter and hearing her thoughts on it as she grows up.   This is a wonderful book to give as a gift.  I feel it should be part of every child’s book collection.

#4.  Fluffy Down Comforters. I think sometimes we take for granted the little things in our homes.  The not so stylish components of a room, but the “inner” bones.  There isn’t a night I get into my bed that I don’t comment to myself or my husband on how delicious our bed is.  When I am in a hotel and I don’t have my own blanket I am reminded of just how important it really is. Besides the comfort it provides it also gives the bed an appearance of a cloud that you just want to sink into.  Of course a beautiful duvet cover never hurt either.

#5. My charm necklace. This is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry I have ever owned. Designed by Kelly Gerber (mother of Randy Gerber-Cindy Crawford’s hubby), this necklace features picture charms of children, husbands, parents or friends. You can choose from tons of other charms, while creating your own storyline. I combined some of Kelly’s charms with antique charms from my mother and grandmother (when I was born my grandmother gave my mother a gold charm of a silouhette of a young girl and now with the birth of my daughter it was passed on to me).  I added to it with the birth of each child, and I hope one day to give it my daughter when she becomes a mother. I wear it almost everyday and no matter who sees it they ask about it. It’s uniquely mine and to me  it feels like I am wearing all the love in the world around my neck.

Hi Michelle: Thank you for the concealer tip!!! Like you, my baby thinks that she lives in another time zone and is often awake in the wee hours of the morning! I’ve tried a lot of concealers but they don’t work, this one did!!!! Thank you!!!!
