If we believed in bumper stickers, ours would read, “We survived ABC!” Team PN took on the industry’s biggest baby show in America, ABC Kids Expo, last week in Louisville, KY. Our mission was clear 1) discover new brands, 2) meet with old friends and 3) uncover the emerging trends within children’s design. So when it comes down to the universal staple in the nursery, baby’s crib, we noticed some major trends across some of our favorite modern brands.
1. The Blondes are Back. Not so long ago, dark stained espresso finishes, paired with stark white, wowed the world of nursery design. This time around, it was refreshing to see the industry soften its tone with classic natural wood finishes. In addition to the finish, simple, rounded crib spindles are making a comeback—a look we love.

(psst…check out the cool, new Loom Changer behind the crib, too)

All-New Robin by Oeuf
2. Industrial-Chic Goes Baby. The new District crib by Nurseryworks was all the buzz and didn’t disappoint. In fact, it’s actually more interesting in person. We’ve all heard about cribs transitioning into toddler or double beds, but what about a solid desk? Nice to know this investment piece will grow as you invest in your child’s education.

3. The Love Affair with Lucite Lasts. Nurseryworks’ Vetro Crib Collection sparked a clear crib obsession a few years back, but this look is no flash in the pan. Instead, it’s continuing to reinvent itself. Here’s the latest lucite in blue.

You no longer have to be a pop star’s daughter to have a cool crib. Lucite is not only readily available but can be made more practical. Babyletto mellows the space age look with lovely acrylic slats on the Harlow crib.
Australian newbie Ubabub makes its debut in the US market by joining the MDB Family of brands.

4. It’s Solid as a Rock. Dutailier’s entry into the crib market made our heads turn. Best known for the classic nursery glider, their new nursery furniture line has gone seriously modern. They’ve encased each corner of the crib with extra paneling and added wider feet, which makes them look solid and sturdy.

So what are your thoughts on the latest modern crib trends? Are they here to stay?

My 4 1/2 year old will sit for hours drawing pictures. He uses up all my white paper, but thats okay :) He puts his pictures up all over the place… anywhere he can get a magnet to stick to (fridge, dishwasher, heating vents… lol)

Wow the crib designs were all beautiful and coloful especially the vetro crib collection because it is made up of glass. How creative the designers are. I can’t wait for 2013.

I was about to say that I’m not digging those glass cribs. They just make me paranoid. But then I saw the second-to-the-last one, the Pod Crib, and I fell in love!
Thara
I totally get the paranoid part. No matter how strong or durable they say the glass material is, I just cannot stop picturing it cracking or breaking.

That Highland and Loom Cribs and all new Robin are really lovely and simple. I think natural wood finish is just eye-catching.
