A Coastal Nursery with Soft Neutrals

Neutral nurseries are still such a large part of what we get asked for! This client in Southern California wanted a neutral space for her baby-on-the-way. The rest of their home was mostly whites and neutrals, and they wanted this neutral coastal nursery to flow with the rest of the house (with some cute accents, of course).

In addition to a neutral nursery, our client wanted to add in layers with very subtle color to warm up the space, and of course, plants! We started by choosing the natural wood crib to anchor the space, a neutral glider and a white changing table with some really cute rope accents. Texture is super important in a neutral space so the room doesn’t feel too cold or monochromatic.

Another thing that’s always very important in a nursery is the window treatments. This home already had the rattan roman shades, but we needed more light protection. We decided to add some custom blackout curtains. Not only do they help darken the windows, they also frame the whole wall and make the overall design feel cohesive.

If you look closely, you’ll see a really fun abstract wallpaper in a soft neutral. We looked at a lot of designs, but our client loved this one the best. The color in person is really beautiful, and the soft weave-like pattern feels whimsical but also versatile enough to transition with the room.

The changing area is clean and simple with a white dresser and changing basket. You can really see the rug in this photo below as well—we wanted a rug that brought in a little color and pattern. This room came together so well, and our client loves it!

A great use of space as well as making neutral colors look interesting.
