Create a Healthy Climate For Your Family in Your Home

As you prepare for this new season of life called parenthood, it’s important to keep up with the four seasons in your home as well. Spring, summer, fall and winter bring with them unique elements that need to be addressed in order to maintain a healthy climate in your house—and that will be more important than ever once you add a baby to your family.

Not only is being comfortable a much-desired quality in your home, it is actually important for the health and well-being of everyone who lives there, especially the smallest members of your tribe. You spend hours upon hours playing, sleeping, feeding and eating in your home, so it’s important to ensure that the air you are breathing is safe and the temperature is stable and comfortable. Together with the residential team at Lennox, we have put together our top tips for creating a healthy climate for your family in your home.

How to Create a Healthy Climate in Your Home

Clear the air. Create a strong defense against allergens, mold, mildew, bacteria and viruses that can breed in your home and live in your air with a total home purification system. The first of its kind, the PureAir™ Air Purification System from Lennox treats your entire house and combats all three classes of indoor air contaminants with their hospital grade filters and contaminant destruction process. We love that this system can be added to any existing HVAC system to safely “take out what you shouldn’t breathe in!”

Create cuddle time. Some like it hot, some like it cold. Place decorative baskets or ladders filled with throw blankets in the nursery, living room and playroom. We love an assortment of lightweight muslin swaddles mixed in with organic cotton blankets and heirloom woven throws so you have lots of options at the ready as the seasons change. Remember no loose blankets should be used in the crib with baby though.

Find your perfect temperature. Use Lennox’s iComfort® E30 Smart Thermostat to determine the ideal temperature for your home, no matter the outside temperature or level of humidity. By using the Feels Like™ feature, the smart thermostat will create a balance between temperature and humidity as it automatically adjusts heating and cooling to maintain your desired perfect temperature.

Dress your windows. Just like us, your home needs protective (and decorative) layers too! Hang curtains and blinds for an added layer of defense against heat from sun rays and chilly winds. Different materials and functions vary greatly and can be customized to suit your geographical location and decorative style. We love layered options for double the interior protection, privacy and style. Be sure to consider cordless products—especially in the nursery!—as you prepare for life with little ones.

Save when you’re away. A busy family life means you’re not always at home! Save energy by allowing your HVAC system to automatically adjust the temperature of your home as you come and go. The Lennox iComfort® E30 Smart Thermostat uses GPS locator technology via your mobile phone to detect your location and keep your home at its ideal temperature for family living and adjust accordingly for all of the times in between.

Get creative in the kitchen. Treat yourself during the warmer months by firing up the grill! It keeps those hotter cooking temperatures outdoors instead of in your home, which cause your air conditioning system to work even harder. Another idea for keeping it cool in the kitchen is to create meals in your slow cooker, which puts off a lot less heat than a traditional oven or stovetop. A constant interior temperature is more comfortable for regulating everyday body temperatures and even saves energy.

Set each room up for success. Even with all eyes on the nursery, we know that baby really has full reign of the entire house. By using a zoning system to adjust temperatures in up to four rooms, each space in your house becomes a comfortable place for baby to grow and develop. Add baskets and storage solutions to your master bedroom, living room, and dining room so that baby’s essentials are always nearby. And break out the travel gear while you’re in the house! A travel crib and changing pad are items that can log daily use in all areas of your home.

Defend against allergens. Pollen and other impure air particles can wreak havoc on your breathing and quality of life. Keep the air in your home fresh and clean with high-performance filters and an HVAC system that monitors quality all on its own. The Allergen Defender in Lennox’s thermostats automatically monitors the air quality and pollen levels of your local zip code and cleans your home’s air as purity thresholds are met. One less thing to think about!

We know it’s easy to focus on the fun baby gear and adorable decorative accessories when prepping for baby, but it’s best to layer those items into a home that has been expertly prepared for healthy living. Fresh and clean air may not be a visible accent in your home, but it’s a critical element to every space and every member of your household. I love the Buffalo Check Pattern with Lucite Nursery idea. I think the clean lines add a nice touch to the room. I think as my child gets older I can move changing table/nursery and convert his crib to a toddler bed it would look great. Thanks for the post.
