Halloween is kind of a big deal around my house. Costume ideas are thrown around for months in advance before we commit to the ONE. I have to admit that my two oldest kids’ first Halloween costumes seem kind of lackluster to me now looking back. So this year for our little Charlie’s first Halloween, I wanted to go all out and make something unique and memorable. He’s not walking yet, so we started brainstorming ideas that would work with us pulling him in our wagon. Then the idea of converting our wagon into an ice cream truck was mentioned, and I knew we could make the cutest little toddler ice cream man costume! So I put my printable design skills to use and created my first printable costume! With a bow tie and a little ink and paper, our little man has been transformed into a retro ice cream man. I am still recovering from the cuteness overload!
Once we decided our little guy was going to be an ice cream man, it was super simple to create the look. We went shopping for a white collared shirt and bow tie, but then we found this adorable Bowtie Striped Body Suit—complete with elbow patches—in our color scheme! From there it was as simple as making the hat, which is almost too easy with this free printable. So I’m also including coordinating ice cream cones (complete with a cherry on top!) that you can fill with treats and have your little one hand out for Halloween!
Materials: 8.5″ x 11″ white card stock, printable hat, printable ice cream cone, scissors, tape, glue stick
Print the ice cream hat printable and cut it straight down the center long ways. Match the two sides up with the design facing out. Fold over a small overlap and tape or glue it into place. Repeat on the opposite side.
Dress your little guy in his shirt and bow tie, and pop on the paper hat! He’s ready to hit the streets to sell some ice cream!
To make your cone, cut each piece out with scissors. Fold the cone piece into a cone and secure with a piece of tape.
Fold the ice cream scoop in half over the top of the cone and secure with glue.
Fold your cherry at the stem. Add glue to the inside pieces.
Fold and pinch your cherry onto the top of the cone so there is a cherry on both sides of the ice cream cone!
Slip a little candy into your ice cream cone, and you’re ready to hand them out for Halloween!
For such a simple costume to make, it sure is adorable and made mobile with our matching printable ice cream truck wagon available in my shop. Now we just need to figure out how to play ice cream truck music as we go!
I’m sure we’ll be talking about this toddler ice cream man costume and trying to live up to it for the next few years. Happy Halloween!
