Fine-tuning Life—and Temperature

This post is sponsored by Honeywell. I received a Lyric thermostat and compensation in exchange for coverage. All opinions and thoughts about this product are my own.

When planning your baby’s nursery, room temperature may not be what comes to mind first, but it’s incredibly important for parents to take into consideration. According to parenting expert Dr. Alan Greene, nurseries should be a warmer during the day and cooler at night to help babies sleep (somewhere between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal). And what new parents wouldn’t appreciate a little more sleep?

There are also heating and cooling costs to take into consideration. Thankfully, modern technology is about making life easier, more efficient and mobile. And believe it or not, this even applies to thermostats!

With my baby’s pending arrival early this winter, I have a laundry list of what needs to be completed, decorated or fixed. But with temperatures dropping, installing a Honeywell Lyric Thermostat recently moved to the top of my list. So I’d like to show you how upgrading your thermostat all on your own (no electrician required!) can make your nursery more comfortable while cutting your energy costs.

Lyric

The first step to installing the Lyric is to download the app on your mobile device. From there, the app takes you through four areas that assist with removing your old thermostat, installing your new one, connecting to WiFi and syncing with your mobile device.

If we can forget the part where we hit a metal stud, which was just bad luck in our case, I can vouch that installation was a breeze. Also, the directions prompted me to take a photo of my existing wiring—which I would refer back to when rewiring—eliminating any feelings of intimidation.

Lyric’s super-smart “fine tune” capabilities actually take indoor and outdoor humidity into consideration alongside temperatures and adjusts its settings accordingly.

Lyric-Outside-Temperature

As a busy mom juggling her kids’ schedules, travel and working from home, I find myself traveling in and out of the house all day long. Thankfully Lyric’s “Geofencing” mode automatically adjusts temps when my smartphone is in range. All this means is that when I am seven miles from my home (or 500 feet—I can choose the distance), this gem of a thermostat will kick on and have my entire home the temperature I want it by the time I walk in the door, saving me money.

Of course, the fact that its sleek, round shell looks ultra cool (and can even displays the current outside temps) is just plain awesome!
