With back-to-school on my mind, I’ve been searching for the right backpack for each of my three kids. The thing is, I actually like different sizes and configurations for each child, and it’s really important to find the right fit for each one. Listen, I’ve gone through enough cheapos to know that construction really does matter, and it’s worth spending a little extra.
Here are a few of my new favorites for fall.
This super sporty backpack is the perfect size for my very active six-year-old son. It fits just the right amount of school stuff with extra room for all his sports gear. The straps are nicely padded and sit comfortably on his frame. I also like that it has an outside mesh pocket to hold a water bottle in place.
Youth North Face Happy Camper Backpack
Pottery Barn Kids has been the reigning backpack go-to for some time. They offer lots of options on size and design, and their packs are well made and long-lasting. My daughter loved hers so much she used it for two school years! If you like a monogram or custom name on the front, these will surely satisfy.
Mackenzie Gray Butterfly Large Backpack
Looking for something for a younger student? I totally dig the old school vibe of the backpacks by Herschel Supply Co. Recommended for kids ages three to six, the buckle straps are actually magnetic for easy opening and closing. It’s great for preschool, daycare and day trips.
Garnet Hill Kids is another great choice for a sturdy and colorful patterned backpack. These are designed for kids ages seven and up and have a lot of bells and whistles like a built-in organizer, iPod port and extra side pockets.
“Hip kids only” is what this backpack says—you know, the ones that dress better than you do? The Mini Kanken is an iconic design that is made in Sweden out of a hard-wearing vinyl fabric. They offer lots of color options.
