2011’s Project Gallery has me lacing up my roller skates and reaching for a James Brown vinyl. Funky patterns and dark contrasts are playing up nurseries in a fresh new way.
Isla’s Nursery answers the age old question “How do I work around white walls?” By using controlled pops of color within the bedding, wall art, and hampers, you can create a retro chic nursery full of hues.
The designer of this Vintage Mid Century Room purchased her fabric at a thrift store with DIY nursery intentions. Her accent ribbon is reminiscent of hand sewn details on a child of the 70’s best Sunday dress.
If you like this trend but find going full funk is too much of a blast from the past, focus on one or two pieces. Malone’s Quirky Nursery does just that by playing up this rad red lamp with an eclectic shade.
I’m excited to see where this trend takes us this year. Submit your funky fab designs and gather inspiration by visiting our Project Gallery.

Seeing this only proves that you can go daring and funky without going overboard and ending up with a weird and totally crazy-looking room. Thanks for sharing.

Isla’s nursery is one-of-a-kind because of this very bold floral theme. It takes talent to apply this sort of funk to a baby’s nursery.
