In the Nursery with The Bachelor’s Molly Mesnick

This is our interview series where we bring you the nurseries and kid rooms of successful designers, entrepreneurs and moms. Through this series, our featured guests will divulge some of their design secrets and share stories of how their nurseries came to be.

Molly and Jason Mesnick's Baby Girl

Earlier this year, we featured Molly’s Baby Shower, a gorgeous celebration in green, gray and yellow. The soon-to-be parents, Molly and Jason, were keeping their bundle’s gender a surprise at the time. Now as we catch up with them, they are busy with their beautiful daughter, Riley Ann! Let’s take a look at Molly Mesnick’s nursery.

Molly tells us she loves seeing all of Riley’s new milestones. “Her newest thing is when I go to grab her out of the crib every morning. When she wakes up, she just kind of wrestles around in her crib making noises. The minute she sees me standing over her, she gets a HUGE smile on her face. It’s the best moment in the world!” We look forward to keeping up with the Mesnicks by following Molly’s blog MollyMesnick.com, which she calls “Reality Through My Eyes.”

Jason and Molly Mesnick's Nursery

Hi Molly, Congratulations on your beautiful new baby girl, Riley Ann! Thank you for sharing her gorgeous new nursery with us. Did you do all of this yourself or did you collaborate with anyone on this design?

If only I had that kind of design talent! Jillian Harris and her assistant Dana actually put the entire room together. I gave her a general idea of what type of room I was hoping for, and they took that feedback and ran with it!

You must be thrilled with the outcome. What’s your favorite aspect of the room?

I love, love, love how the room turned out. It feels so peaceful and comfortable, yet modern. I think my favorite part of the room is the wall collage, which includes pictures of Jason and me, prints from Minted, and a fabulous tortoise shell!

You shared with People Magazine that Riley has toys and gadgets everywhere. Our readers frequently ask about organization tips. What do you find has worked for you?

It is amazing to me how much “stuff” this little girl has! I’m the type of person who doesn’t like a lot of clutter, and I did want to make sure our house still looked like a “home” not a playroom! To do this, I use cute baskets to hold all of her items. Her diapers are nicely layered into a woven basket. Her toys and blankets are in bins on a nice shelving unit. I buy normal, household organizational tools for all of her stuff—not kiddie stuff!

Can you share any memorable moments from the design process?

I’d say my favorite part of working with Jillian was when she actually came to our house to get everything set up. We all just hung out, gossiped, drank wine (water for me), all while throwing things on the walls, placing items here and there. At one point, we all stopped and realized—voilà, the room was perfect!

Do you know of a fantastic nursery or big kid’s room designed by a successful designer or business owner? Please send a photo of the room to Adrienne@ProjectNursery.com for consideration.

I wasn't able to watch their season of The Bachelor. But I love Molly's style.

The tortoise shell is gorgeous! Is that authentic or something?

Hi Ross, the tortoise shell looks similar to the one sold at Target. I'm not sure if the white is still available, but I see the yellow is still online: http://goo.gl/v29Fn
