Vintage Glam Girl Nursery

Description

After 3 months of hard work and design my baby girls nursery is ready for her arrival, due July 19!   After a long struggle to conceive this miracle baby, I had a desire to make a peaceful, beautiful oasis for baby girl and for me.  My sister and I decided to make all of her crib bedding on our own because I couldn't find the sophisticated/pretty soft pink and white I was looking for. Our Mom, who recently passed away just three months ago, also made all of our crib bedding when we were babies, this was a really wonderful tribute to her and all she did for us, we were definitely channeling her skills.

Design Inspiration

I found a beautiful antique painting of a vintage bird with a pale pink background, that really set the tone.  I wanted to keep it ultra feminine, soothing and peaceful for my girl and for me.

Decorating Style

Vintage glam...not overly shabby chic, much more pretty and delicate.

Project Details

I started by painting the walls in Benjamin Moore paint, Touch of Pink..to be sure it had the softness of pale pink without being over powering at all.  I realized as much as I love the bolder modern colors, that I really was drawn to a very girl vintage theme, so with that I started to look for vintage dressers with lots of detail.  Then I found my dresser/mirror at an antique store for $250!  I splurged more on the crib (Bratt Decor), the iron crib makes the room feel less tight than the larger heavy wood cribs that are so popular.   The rocking chair with ottoman came from Pottery Barn Kids.  I also purchased the chandelier and rose bud lamp from Pottery Barn Kids.  The bedding was home made by myself and my sister, I could not find the soft pink and white delicate bedding I was looking for so we decided to bite the bullet and make it ourselves! Then we were able to wallpaper the closet with the same material we used for the fitted crib sheet, by soaking the material in liquid starch and smoothing it on the walls in carefully measured and cut pieces, very easy application and removal when necessary!  I just love how it turned out!  The side table next to the chair actually was a great find at TJ Max for $39.  The antique shelf above the chair was a great find on Etsy for about $40.  The tree/bird stencil  was also a find on Etsy.  The small pictures and frame collage are finds from Michaels, Hobby Lobby and antique stores.  The boxes in the closet I purchased for organization of larger clothing, shoes, blankets etc..to keep the closet organized as it's an open closet.

Favorite Items

My favorite part of this room is a tie between the gorgeous vintage dresser from the 30's, and the way the open closet turned out.

Advice

Find a theme and a vibe you're looking for, and stick with it, it will all come together!  If you like vintage/glam, check out antique stores.. a lot, there are some amazing finds...like all the pictures, frames, sugar bowls etc in this room.. all vintage finds and very inexpensive!

Beautiful! I did my little girl/granddaughters (I am raising her) nursery in soft pink white and cream and also made the crib bedding. I love your crib bedding....you and your sister did a great job. Is that a picture of your mom and you in the closet? Your closet is so pretty! Where did you find the wallpaper and fabric to match? Does it have french writing on the material? God Bless you and your baby girl! I know that she is going to be a girly girl with all the pretty's in her closet. LOL

Thank you Jan! The wallpaper is actually fabric that we used for the crib sheet. You take the material (pre measured and cut) and soak it in liquid starch and then flatten on to the walls like wallpaper with a wide brush, flatten all air bubbles out etc...then I trimmed the closet with polka dot ribbon. The picture is of me and my Mom when I was a baby... :)
