Penguin Nursery

Description

It was important for my husband and I to not have a "baby" nursery.  I do not believe that your nursery must be filled with cartoon characters in order for it to be a cute and functional baby room.  We tried to make our nursery gender neutral (Did not know the sex of our baby until she was born) and sophisticated.

Design Inspiration

The nursery was inspired by my two favorite things penguins and reading.  We felt penguins were gender neutral and a unique under used animal for a nursery.  We went with gray, black and white with a pop of red as an accent color.

Decorating Style

I would say we are transitional and unique.

Project Details

We did almost our entire room as a DIY project.  We started very early and worked hard.  We also found many good deals.  We spent about $500 on the room.  Here is a link to my blog with details on everything in the room

Favorite Items

My favorite Item is the two Penguin Book posters my husband made.  I absolutely love them.

Advice

Start early and don't be afraid of some DIY project.  It can make a truly unique room that fits your personality.  it can also be a lot of fun as well.
