Nautical Inspired Nursery

Description

My sister was a little stressed with the arrival of her first baby, so I offered to help her decorate the nursery. She loves very traditional clothing and decor, but also loves the ocean, so we decided to do a take on a nautical nursery. She didn't want it to be to "themey", so I did my best to find pieces and accessories that felt oceanic without screaming it.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration piece was the Jackson bedding from Pottery Barn Baby. She had already registered for the bedding, so we decided to just use that as our jumping off point.

Decorating Style

I love traditional decor with modern lines, and natural elements (wood, jute, etc).

Project Details

The bedding is from Pottery Barn's Jackson bedding line. The rug was from overstock.com. She wanted to keep his books and toys off the floor, but didn't have much storage space, so we used the vertical spine bookcase from Ikea. I DIYed the pillows myself using different colorful fabrics on the font side, and plain natural textured material as the backing. I used the 24 inch down inserts from Ikea. The fabric with the turtle on it by Thomas Paul. The circular nesting tables are also from overstock.com. Links to many of the sources are posted on my blog.

Favorite Items

The bronze/copper puffer fish is my favorite. It's like his first little artifact. I also love the white linen curtains with the greek key trim. I used blackout lining so the room is completely dark when he naps.
