Leighton’s Green, Gold and Pink Nursery

Description

Leighton's green, gold and pink nursery is colorful, fun, and personal -- a space I think she'll enjoy being in and that will grow with her for many years. We incorporated special pieces from family and friends, custom artwork, and some great color to make it a unique space for her.

Design Inspiration

We started by painting the walls a very neutral color (light grey) because I had fallen for this gorgeousĀ Land of Nod crib in a bright emerald green, and I wanted it to be the star of the room. Everything else fell into place as I started searching for bedding to complement the crib and artwork to fill the walls. I also got tons of inspiration for things like the gallery wall and bookshelf styling from Pinterest.

Decorating Style

In this space, it would be colorful and creative, but somewhat classic.

Project Details

Much of the larger staple pieces in the room came from The Land of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids. We got the metal book cases from IKEA, and after seeing them spray painted gold on Pinterest, we decided to do the same with ours. We flanked the crib with the book cases to give us lots of extra storage and display space, which I love.

On the gallery wall, I wanted to feature things special to us as a family. We included a watercolor portrait of a Rottweiler (which just so happens to look exactly like our 4.5 year old puppy Coco), a letterpress map of Nashville, which is where my husband is from and also where we met, and a print with the saying "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck," which is something my Nannie has said to all of her grandkids our entire lives. The wall also has a couple blank frames to show off our maternity and newborn portraits. I love the personal touch these pieces add to her room.

Favorite Items

The green crib! Everyone who has seen the nursery comments on it, and it truly is the star piece of the room. I also love the white and gold campaign-style dresser, which is stylish, has so much storage, and will likely be in our house for decades to come. Our custom painting above the dresser is also a favorite, special piece, as it was created just for her by my sister-in-law's very talented father, a local artist named Craig Griffin.

Advice

Scope out your favorite pieces and keep an eye out for sales, like over holiday weekends! I did that for our dresser and glider, which wereĀ the biggest splurges in the room, and it definitely helped to have a nice discount on those pieces.

Also, Pinterest is a great place for inspiration on how to achieve a certain look or style or search for an exact item in a room (like the gold IKEA book cases). I took ideas on how to create an interesting gallery wall and also looked for good color combos. Etsy was another favorite for bedding, artwork, and interesting tidbits to add some creative, unique pieces to the room.
