Fun and Colourful Batik Nursery

Description

This is a nursery I put together for my new baby. When I was about 5 months pregnant I started making things and collecting interesting art and toys.

Design Inspiration

I have a batik quilt made by a lady at my work and I love it. I wanted to do a similar batik theme for the nursery. The room was designed around the batik crib skirt, valance and matching quilt.

Decorating Style

Definitely eclectic. I like to collect things when I am traveling and put them all together. I really like bright colours and interesting patterns. I enjoy DIY projects as well.

Project Details

It all started with the bed skirt and valance made by my mother in law, and the quilt designed by a colleague. I then added art I found on Etsy and art by family members. I colour photocopied parts of the quilt and framed them on the wall. Other DIY projects in the nursery include the paper balls I made, quilts, knitted toys and blankets made by friends and family. The night light is made from a wine bottle stuffed with twinkle lights. The awesome owl mobile was made by a talented friend from driftwood in her yard.

Favorite Items

The hanging string of butterflies and framed butterfly. I found the string while on holiday in Idaho and the butterfly was a gift from my husband.

Advice

Do not be worried about everything matching!
