Do It Yourself First Birthday

Description

For my son's first birthday party my husband and I wanted this party to be 100% done only by us. No catering, no event coordinators, no print-shop invites or paper details.

Design Inspiration

Movember, and the fact that my husband loves bow ties!  It seemed like a cute theme.

Decorating Style

Chic and whimsical I think...with a touch of vintage.  Some of the party elements, ie coffee cups and frame {which then I painted etc...} were bought in thrift stores.

Project Details

Photography by Labour of Love Photo http://labouroflovephoto.com/

Invitations, labels, food tags, drink menu:  designed and printed by my husband and I...and will all be available for purchase on my Etsy shop soon  http://www.etsy.com/shop/AnaKlizs?ref=seller_info

Food and desserts all home made.

I will post all the DIY projects as well on my blog.

Favorite Items

The vintage frame that I repainted and lined with chicken coop wiring.  On which I hung fake polaroids of my son's life.  It now is on my wall in my living room and every day I look at it I am inspired.

Advice

Start the planning early.  We started 5 months before the big day.  I baked every weekend to (A)find the perfect recipes for his big day and (B)perfect my decorating technique.

Also frequent second hand stores...you can find some lovely gems to use to make your party unique.

I really love DIY-themed parties because I know it's always double the fun preparing everything.
