andrew miller arts

A few months ago, a friend told me about Andrew Miller Arts. She had flipped out for Andrew's custom mosaic collages and thought it would be a perfect match for Project Nursery readers. I took one look at Andrew's work online and instantly knew I needed to meet the artist and see his work in person. These one-of-a-kind contemporary pieces are just the type of thing we love to discover. Luckily, Andrew was coming to San Francisco a few weeks later to show his work at local baby boutique Sprout. I happily went to check it out and learn more about the mosaic process from the artist himself. AMA's mosaic portraits are more than a photograph—they use hundreds of individual memories, moments and milestones. From afar, these contemporary works of art look like a modern version of your favorite photo, but if you look closely, you can see that each square is actually a different photo. You work with Andrew to individually hand pick the photos that will create your personal palette. I'll just say these collages, which can be mounted on plexiglass or aluminum or printed on photographic paper and framed, are perfect for the parent looking for a unique picture for their child's room. Andrew goes to great lengths to create a personal one-of-a-kind piece of art that will be cherished for years. Contact Andrew for more information and pricing.

Children's Book Library

In my last post, I wrote about book shelves. This week, I'd love to highlight some of the books that my children adore. I hope you like them. 1. Hug: Every time my daughter and I read the word "hug," we actually hug. Yup, pretty darn cute, if I do say so. 2. Mommy Hugs: I love the illustrations of all Karen Katz's books. 3. My First Word Book: Excellent for building baby's vocabulary.   4. Goodnight Moon: A must-have for everyone's library. 5. Corduroy: A childhood classic!   6. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day: My 6-year-old will quote this book when he is having a bad day. Sometimes I think he really means it when he says he wants to move to Australia. Eeek! 7. The Giving Tree: This book is geared towards older children. My 3- and 6-year old enjoy it. Prepare to cry.
