Following the reveal of the baseball room two weeks ago, we now reveal his older brother's geography and travel themed room. Our six-year-old client loves geography, so our first quest was to find a way to incorporate a world map into the room. We decided to make the map the focal point and selected a world map mural with a laminated finish so that the future traveler could mark places on the map. To avoid it looking like a classroom, we added a custom wood frame around the entire piece. The same wood is used on the other wall to frame the cork wall and to build a shelf we designed above his desk. The ducduc Campaign bed, with the trundle bed below ready for overnight visitors, is mature enough to last for many years. We expanded the notion of geography to include travel too—with airplanes on the bed linen and some fun accessories such as the vintage plane money box (you're never too young to start saving!) and a retro route 66 sign (also an homage to the family's previous home in California). We used colored cork panels to create the wall behind his desk as a place for him to hang up creations, finds, homework and pictures. Directly behind the desk, we painted an inset portion with chalkboard paint, where homework can be figured out in a fun manner. The floor was covered with plush Manx FLOR tiles that are both comfortable and easy to replace in the …
