I was already obsessed with navy and when we found out we were having a girl, blush was the perfect soft compliment to balance out our already dark “guest room” walls to transition it to a nursery.

Most of the items in Sophia’s nursery have been curated from flea markets and Craigslist over the past several years.  I spray painted the faux wood dresser white and rubbed the hardware with gold Rub’n buff. I found the chandelier 5 years ago, and finally took it to a lamp store to get fixed, then cleaned and spray painted it copper.  The largest project was the rocking loveseat, which I spotted for FREE on the side of the road down the street from our house.  It was old, smelly, dusty and discussing, but luckily my mom and sister are very supportive of my vision and helped me remove the nasty upholstery. It was hours and hours of work, wearing masks and goggles. I ended up paying an upholsterer to reupholster it with white denim fabric, with nailhead trim, and I stained the wood. I just love the way it turned out and I can’t wait to sit on it with my little girl as we read books.

The closet system was a huge undertaking as a pregnant woman. I hung temporary wallpaper on the back wall, and built the shelf system, with the help of my mom.

The artwork has been collected from home goods, a shop in Portland, and Etsy. My husband is Norwegian and I have Swedish roots, so I love the dala horse print as a nod to Sophia’s Scandinavian ethnicity.  I found that on Etsy from a Swedish vendor.
