Meet the Decorist Designers: Vicenza Ronan

It has been so much fun to share the exceptional work of Decorist designers with you over the past few weeks. We are wrapping up the series today with yet another fabulous and amazing designer, Vicenza Ronan. As you probably know by now (but just in case you missed it), a couple of months ago we launched our collaboration with Decorist, our favorite online interior design service. Week by week, we’ve introduced you to some of their top nursery designers, including Vincenza. Don’t lose another second—read on to find out more about her designs and what inspires her.

What is your design style? How do you work it into children’s design?
I love to create spaces that meet the client’s needs and style. I don’t really have a specific style, and mostly I love working around my client’s ideas and creating a design that pleases their eyes and their lifestyle. Additionally, I do enjoy creating designs that have a contrast of colors and materials, mixing traditional pieces with a touch of modern and dreaming up designs with a unique feel.

Gray and White Nursery Design

What is your number one piece of advice for parents when it comes to kids design?
Create a design that allows you to have flexibility when your child is growing. This is most important! For example, choose a neutral color palette or a theme that will give you the opportunity to easily make changes in the room as the interests of your child change. Don’t overcrowd the room by filling all the walls—leave empty spaces that will allow you to make adjustments.

Kids grow very fast, as we all know, and their style and interests change very quickly as well. One day they love blue, and then before long, they think that blue is only for babies. As a mom, my advice is to keep the style simple when selecting key pieces and color palettes. Create a nice, age-appropriate playroom, but add colorful accent decor that allows you to easily change it as the child grows, such as pillows, bedding and accessories.

How do you keep nursery design fresh when so much is about function?
Kids love to have functional rooms where they can play and entertain themselves. The best way to keep a design fresh is to create a space that divides the room into sections based upon your child’s needs. Use one side of the wall, for example, for a bookshelf, chair and small table to create a reading area. Adding baskets to keep their toys organized in the room is a must and a great solution that gives the room an airy and fresh feeling!

Colorful Nursery Design

We named our 2016 nursery trends. What are you predicting will be popular in nurseries this year?
Pastel colors and accent walls! This year you’ll see more emphasis on pastel colors as well as soft vintage palettes. That includes colors like dusty rose, light jade and soft pink. Expect more accent walls with wallpaper, reclaimed wood, decals or even a simple change in paint color. Adding linens or wall art with geometric influences will also keep your baby’s room looking fresh, clean and modern.

I have a little girl. She’s almost 3 y.o. Decorating her room with a fine and proper nursery with latest trend of 2016 is quite taking a hardwork. However, it is worth! :)
