There’s Color and Texture and Whimsy to Spare in this Boho Chic Girl’s Room

When it comes to designing my own home, I can’t help but change it up every couple years, especially my kids’ rooms. My daughter Marin’s room was ready for something a little different. She is seven going on 17, so I partnered up with our friends at Serena & Lily to give Marin a bohemian chic hideout.

I absolutely fell in love with the Avalon Daybed and built her boho chic girl’s room around it. The modern rattan design gives the room a bohemian vibe, and Marin absolutely loves it. The Candy Stripe Coverlet was the perfect addition to the bed with its pinstripes and white pom fringe. I added a few pillows I found at HomeGoods, and the bedding came right together.

I decided to add shiplap to the room and paint it bright white to create a backdrop for the cactus wall decor. I designed the prickly pear cactus on the computer, cut the pieces out on a laser cutter and hand-painted each one with watercolor paint. Let’s just say it was a labor of love! I topped off a few of the prickly pear pads with some silk flowers I found at IKEA.

While I was browsing at IKEA, I came across this rattan hula hoop. I knew it would be perfect above her bed, but I wasn’t sure what to do with it. Then it came to me—a huge dreamcatcher! It was so much fun to create, and Marin had fun helping me make the pom poms and tassels.

Adding a vintage desk to her room was definitely a must. With all of her homework and the many craft projects that are made on a daily basis, I promise the desk is never THIS clean! A fun art wall with a few of her favorite things rounded out this focal wall.

We certainly can’t forget the best seat in the house. Who doesn’t want a swing in their bedroom? This Hanging Rattan Chair is so comfortable and a big hit for reading books and relaxing.

This room was so much fun for me to design. I know Marin’s little personality all too well and feel like I captured it perfectly in her boho chic girl’s room. At the end of the day, girls just want to have fun!!
