Tea Party Birthday Fit for a Princess

Summer birthdays are my favorite. The temps are warm, days are free and everyone is in the mood for an outdoor party. Earlier this summer, Sloane and I received a tea and princess birthday invitation from our friend Julie to attend her daughter Lauren’s 5th birthday party. We RSVP’d with a big YES and prepared to get our tea party princess on!

Mom of three, Julie Haag is the Vice President of catalog and web for RH Baby & Child and earlier this past spring, she was inspired by their new collection of princess crowns and the elegant, mini farm kids table. Julie knew immediately that they would make adorable decor for a birthday party, and since she hadn’t planned a party for her own daughter in a few years, she went to work planning a princess tea party for Lauren’s 5th birthday.

Using the sunshine and the local park space as a blank canvas, Julie included so many lovely summertime touches. The party had an easy, relaxed feel, just perfect for an outdoor party.

Arriving at the park, we immediately spotted the party set up on the grass under a grove of trees. Lauren greeted her friend’s with personalized felt crowns and sparkly wands. For the grownups, Julie had set up a DIY mimosa and Bloody Mary bar. Of course, there was plenty of healthy and delicious snacks for the kids to enjoy, and the summer strawberry cake from Miss Jones, an organic bakery in San Francisco, made the ultimate focal point for the display.

There was plenty of fun for the kids—first up was outdoor mani/pedis and temporary tattoos. Perched in pared down versions of RH’s classic dome chair, the kids felt like royalty during their pampering. While they waited their turns, canvas teepees and poufs were available in an open space for the kids to play.

After the kids played and sat for a quick tea and snack break, the cake was cut and birthday wishes sung. Soon, it was time to say goodbye. Sloane absolutely loved Lauren’s party favor, a petite floating charm necklace. I want to thank Julie and Lauren for including us—a lovely day was had by all!
