Online Resources for Your Toughest Parenting Problems

Welcome to our series spotlighting our Featured Vendors from our Vendor Guide. The guide includes carefully curated vendors from the baby and children’s industry in design, retail, special services and much more.

Raising a family definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. Today I am excited to introduce you to Mommybites, a wonderful resource for moms. This community offers a wide variety of parenting articles to help you with your most difficult stage, help in finding a nanny if you need one and best of all, online parenting classes. Oh, and did I mention it’s all free? Mommybites covers everything from sleep to potty training—there’s truly something for every mom to learn.

Mommybites Co-Founders

Tell us how it all started.
For Mommybites co-founders Laura Deutsch and Heather Ouida, it all started with a few simple questions. Is there a way for all moms from anywhere in the county to have access to quality parenting classes? Could they attend without ever leaving their homes? Could the class instructors be the same respected experts who were already running Mommybites’ successful in-person classes? Could the classes be free?

It turns out that the answers to all of these questions was YES!

Topics of Mommybites free online parenting seminars vary from common parenting themes such as infant and toddler sleep, potty training, developmental milestones and post-baby finances, to more complex themes like protecting children from sexual predators, children and divorce, children with special needs and much more! Moms can either just listen to the class or they can jump in and ask/type questions to the expert. “We wanted to create an environment where all moms feel comfortable,” says Laura.

Heather likes to tell the story of her husband coming home from work one day laughing. It turns out he went into the office of one of his colleagues at lunch time, only to have her shush him because she was “on one of his wife’s online parenting classes.”

What is your biggest piece of advice for new parents?
We love the parenting quote, “The days are long but the years are short.” It’s just so true! So we encourage all new parents to keep in mind that no matter how hard things are (because as great as it is, parenting can be overwhelming!), they really do get easier, and before you know it, your baby will be all grown up.

Tell us your motto.
We love the quote that is up at the Facebook headquarters: “Done is better than perfect.” As small business owners and moms, it’s hard not to get stuck on making sure every single thing is perfect but not at the expense of getting those things accomplished or “done!”

Any advice you wish someone had given to you?
Looking back on raising toddlers, we wish we had seen this quote from Hal Runkel, the Scream Free parenting founder, which would have saved us a lot of toddler/parent battles. He said to parents, “Kids are always going to act like kids. The real question is, how old are you going to act?”
