Here’s a Fresh Take on Decal Designs

Welcome to our series spotlighting our Featured Vendors from our Vendor Guide. The guide includes carefully curated vendors from the baby and children’s industry in design, retail, special services and much more.

When I was planning my daughter’s nursery, I knew I wanted something different and unexpected, and wall decals helped me accomplish that look in a fun way. That’s one of the reasons I’m excited to introduce you to Lulukuku, a husband and wife design team that offers beautiful wall decals for your nursery and your home. Lucie and Temple have collaborated on every one of their original designs. Not only are these decals perfect for your walls, they’ve also designed a line of furniture decals that will give your piece a custom look. You definitely won’t be disappointed in the fun that this creative team will bring into your home.

Do you have a signature product or design element?
We have a number of products that bring our design sensibility to practical items, and that is really gratifying for us. For instance, our popular branch shelf decal set and tree shelf decal set are sweet design elements for the nursery, but they also provide a very practical solution by adding something every nursery needs—storage! Likewise, our new furniture decal line brings fun design elements to an IKEA hack or any furniture makeover. We love taking a practical item, like a plain Jane IKEA dresser, and helping our customers apply their own style!

What can we expect from you this year?
The furniture makeover and IKEA hack decals have been very popular this year, so we will be expanding that line both in the number of designs and in the breadth of furniture styles that the designs are available for. We are getting requests for our designs to fit various IKEA pieces faster than we can get them into production, so we will be increasing those offerings as quickly as possible. (If you see a design you love, but it’s not available for the IKEA piece you have, please let us know—we’ll make it happen as soon as we can!) It is so fun to be part of our customers’ DIY transformations—we get really and truly excited with each picture a customer sends our way!

What advice do you have for parents when curating their nurseries? Any nursery must-haves?
I love when I hear the word “nesting” associated with designing a nursery. That’s really what we’re doing, right? Creating a wonderful and cozy nest for baby to come home to? I think it’s helpful to focus on the items that make your heart sing and make the nursery feel like a welcoming and inviting place to live. The tone of a nursery is really set by the walls—after all, they are the largest design element in a room. That begins with the wall color, which can set the tone as sweet, whimsical, fun or soothing. Then, of course, my mind goes to decals. The right wall decal set can really transform a room and help you get not just the look you’re going for but also the feeling you want to convey.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Some of our favorite decal designs actually started as creative collaborations with customers. As we’re getting busier, it’s important for us to find a way to still squeeze in a few custom jobs each month. We love working with expecting parents to help them bring their vision to life. And while we help them create the nursery of their dreams, we often create a fantastic new product. And of course, we’re influenced by design magazines and blogs. To be honest, we had a hard time getting on board with some recent trends early on, including geometric designs and the mint and gold color combination. But as we saw them more and more and really got immersed in them, they grew on us. Now we want everything to be mint and gold. Everything!

Tell us your motto.
Enjoy the process! We are so blessed to work with designs that we love and to interact with wonderful customers who are creating lovely nests for their little ones. What’s not to enjoy?
