Monsters, Inc. Inspired Birthday Party

One of the most popular party themes we’ve created is a Monsters, Inc. inspired birthday party, and it’s also one of our favorites! It’s so fun for a first birthday, and toddlers will love it too. This Monsters, Inc. party features a happy color palette that can be used for a boy or a girl, and it’s perfect for twins! The patterns, visuals, textures and graphics are the jumping off point to get this party started!

We didn’t want to overdo the theme, but there needed to be some recognizable elements from the movie that the little guest of honor would be able to recognize, so we chose the door as the inspiration for the printables. This mini door bunting makes the perfect cake topper.

For the cake, our local Target store baked a standard 12″ two layer round cake and iced it with a grass tip in aqua and purple polka dots to look like Sully’s fur. The cupcakes were decorated to look like Mike Wazowski’s eye.

A color coordinated candy bar adds even more fun to any party theme.

One of our favorite things to do for parties is to create boxed lunches. We make tiny sandwiches ahead of time and pack them up with goldfish crackers, squeeze applesauce, juice boxes and a napkin. This is a great grab-and-go option for attendees that have little kiddos. Trying to juggle a toddler or two—or three!—while making plates of food can be disastrous, so when snacks or lunches are pre-packed or portioned out, it’s a huge time-saver for the guests.

For a quick DIY and added decor, we trimmed out paper place mats with tissue paper fringe. The darling place settings also included small party bags, wooden utensils and a Monsters, Inc. printable.

If you’re really in the mood to DIY, try making some Oreo pops. Here we used green candy melts, oreos, large candy eyes and some black icing to make Mike Wazowski Oreo pops!

With a few DIY elements, decorative treats, colorful party decor and printables, you can easily create a fun themed party that your little monster will LOVE!
