Four! That’s right—the Barbe family (and the Project Nursery family by extension) is going to be growing by two tiny feet this October. I’m so excited to announce that I’m pregnant with our second baby! Our two-year-old daughter Emmi is already campaigning for the “Best Big Sister” award—she loves to pat my growing bump and say, “Nice baby!” and kissing the baby goodnight is now the sweetest part of our bedtime routine.
We took the traditional route and waited to share the news with our family and friends after we made it through the first trimester. And with all that time to plan, I couldn’t help but get a little creative with our announcement.
My husband and I always pictured ourselves as a family of four, but while we waited with great anticipation to become parents for the first time, it wasn’t such an easy decision for us this time around. Maybe it’s because Emmi really gave us a run for our money when she was a newborn, and we were hesitant to enter that phase again. Or maybe it’s because life with a toddler and a newborn just sounds so overwhelming. But more than anything, I think it’s because of all the joy and love that Emmi has brought us—my heart is so full, and I wasn’t sure how another baby would fit into the beautiful balance we’ve found as a family of three.
It took some getting used to, but with every passing day, we grow more and more excited to meet this tiny human. We have big plans for our little family—we’re going to be shaking things up with a bedroom-to-nursery transition, a big girl room and a new master bedroom—and I can’t wait to share our journey with you. We know that our lives will change dramatically, but we also know that our hearts and our home will be overflowing with love in just a few short months.
Mamas of two (or more!)—how did you know the time was right for your family to grow? What did you do to prepare for baby number two?
