Design Reveal: Momma's Gone City Daughter's Room

It’s been a big week at my house. For the first time in her life, my daughter, Zoe, is moving into her own bedroom! No longer sharing with her brothers, she has a beautiful new space to create, love and thrive in—and she is thrilled! We designed her room with the help of Zoe, first and foremost, but also with the help of the wonderful design specialists at Pottery Barn Kids, as well as the creative and wildly talented women here at Project Nursery.

Momma's Gone City Daughter's Room

When I was a little girl, I had the most beautiful room. It was my palace, my sanctuary, my safe place, and I still remember it as all of those things to this very day.

In my mind, I wanted Zoe’s space to feel to her the way mine did for me: safe and protective yet inspiring and peaceful. I knew going into this that she would choose something pink, and I was thrilled to see that while Pottery Barn Kids’ Elyse bedding collection is absolutely primarily pink, the designs are lovely and whimsical as well, with beautiful paisleys and elephants dancing in patterns.

The furniture is classic white yet embellished slightly, like the floral detail on the headboard of the bed—the Madeline collection is one that will surely grow with Zoe as she gets older and her tastes change.

Ballet is something that has been a part of Zoe’s life since she was two. She is expressive and joyful, so dance is a really fun complement to her already whimsical disposition. We installed a ballet barre to continue to inspire her and remind her to always do what she loves.

We managed to get what felt like a zillion little treasured and adored stuffed animals neatly stored into the wicker bins within the shelved case, as well as into decorative baskets that filled space in her room while being lovely and discreet at the same time.

My personal favorite part of her new room is the desk. Zoe makes storybooks all day, every day, whatever chance she gets, and this space will allow and inspire her in so many ways. It makes my heart jump just thinking about it.

Taking down an entire room and setting a new one up in its place is no easy feat; fortunately Pottery Barn Kids’ delivery team did the building for us, while taking the packaging materials away with them. The rest of the room installment was truly a family affair. My husband did the heavy lifting while arranging the pieces in the space just after my wonderful mother-in-law generously offered to paint the room a delicious shade of gray.

We couldn’t be happier with her new space. It’s everything I had hoped for, and Zoe herself has been over the moon since the grand reveal.

She has been giggling, squealing, jumping and singing for joy any time we are home or even talking about her new room. She loves it so much. I certainly see this being her sanctuary and fun space just like my room was for me.
