Welcome to Project Nursery’s series, spotlighting our Featured Vendors from our Vendor Guide. The guide includes carefully curated vendors from the baby and children industry in design, retail, special services and much more.
Meet Jennifer Stables from Jenny Dale Designs. Through her business, Jennifer celebrates the joy and wonder of childhood in her art. She offers a variety of unique illustrations and poetry to adorn the walls of children’s rooms, nurseries or any special nook or cranny of your home. Her exquisite portraits of babies and children capture the joy and love she recognizes in each child. Jennifer also accepts commissions for baby portraits, still-life paintings, landscapes and custom nursery and children’s art, and we know that you will love her whimsical style as much as we do!
Do you have a signature design element in your work?
I think my work certainly has a distinct style to it. I try to combine classical elements of form and shadow with a whimsical sense of line. I like to call it “scribbly!” Each character I create has a personality, and every painting comes with its very own poem that I have written. It’s my way of letting my customers know that my illustrations are made with thoughtfulness, love and care.
What do you think people might not know about Jenny Dale Designs that you’d like to share?
I can customize most of my prints by changing background colors or adding a name or birth date to them. I accept all kinds of requests for custom original paintings.
What advice do you have for parents when curating a nursery? Any nursery must-haves?
There are so many wonderful ideas for decorating a nursery if you spend some time perusing Pinterest or Etsy. My advice is to begin with a piece of art or a vintage item that you love, and find ways to complement that piece throughout the nursery using colors and patterns in bedding and accessories. There is a lot of wonderful artwork out there that can grow with your child as they transition from a nursery to a toddler room.
Where do you find your inspiration?
My son James constantly inspires me as do all of the children I have worked with over the years as both a kindergarten and art teacher. They help me see that the world is full of wonder, humor and love. I also find much inspiration in vintage patterns and clothing, as well as animals, birds and insects.
What’s your motto?
To create every painting with love and care, and to treat every customer with that same love and care.
Isn’t Jennifer’s outlook so inspiring? I just love how her inspiration for her artwork comes from looking at the world through the eyes of children. Also, did you catch that each painting comes with a poem written by Jennifer herself? What a personal and amazing baby shower gift that would make!
