Design Reveal: A Budding Fashonista

Blogging is such a blast! As we continue to grow Project Nursery, we meet so many great people along the way. (By the way, have you checked out our new and improved website?). One of those really neat people happens to be Beth Powell of Bibzees. Now Beth knows style. Just check out her eco-friendly, smart designs for baby and toddler. Beth’s love of design has recently rubbed off on her daughter Olivia, a budding fashionista and today we take a tour of her big girl room…

What was your inspiration for the room?
My passion is fashion and having been lucky enough to attend Fashion Week last September (DVF and Tracy Reese!!!), I returned ready to decorate accordingly!

What best describes your decorating style?
I would describe my daughter’s room as High Glam, but the rest of my home has a more contemporary/urban look.

Share with us choice of paint colors, furniture, art, diy tips, etc.
I was using a lot of what we already had like the white chest, but to glam it up I changed out the white knobs with some crystal knobs that I found at Home Depot. The chandelier was also a great stumble upon at Home Depot as well. I found the crystal lamp at Home Goods and thought it worked well with the new knobs. Since the only thing my daughter insisted on was the color purple, I chose a shade that reminded me of black raspberry ice cream from Sherwin Williams. It’s called, “Obi Lilac“. The bookcase we already had and is simply a ready to assemble find from good old Target. I liked the sheen on the bedding and was trying to find something to that would fit the theme and came across this set at TJ Maxx! It worked well with the chandelier and picture frames too!

For the artwork I was lucky enough to stumble upon these gorgeous fashion sketches while perusing the shops at Etsy! Autumn Russell has one of my favorite Etsy stores and my daughter and I had great fun selecting our favorite sketches! The street lamp decal was also an Etsy find at Decorette . The decal letters were also fun to order through Upper Case Living where you can select your own font, size, and color. You can check out my friend’s Upper Case Living site at: http://palmer.uppercaseliving.net/Home.m. The decals were easy to apply and everyone keeps asking who painted them for me!

What is your favorite item(s) in the room?
My favorite items are definitely the Autumn Russell sketches. I love to have special one of a kind pieces!

And anything else you would like to share?
The only part of the room I am unhappy about is the bed, it is a bit more Country Cottage than High Glam, but it will remain for the time being….. If anyone stumbles across a great glamorous bed (must be a queen and pure white!) please send me the link!

PN: Ok readers! Send Beth your suggestions. In the mean time Little Apple Design envisions a lovely white fabric headboard with dark purple piping. In fact, we recommend using the existing headboard, add batting and then staple on fabric for a DIY project. And while we are talking bedding, every fashionista needs a pile of pillows. How about incorporating some bold damask and monogram prints for additional glam?

I like the idea of a fabric headboard too. What about white velvet with nail head trim? What about mirrored bedside tables? That would really glam thinks up for your big girl’s room.
