Vintage Farmhouse Chic Nursery for Harley Chapel

Description

Everyone kept asking me "What's your theme?" and I didn't really have an answer as I just wanted it to be Harley's room :) I am deal finder & love designing rooms. All I knew was that I wanted vintage pieces but not the cliche shabby chic but rather a room she could grow in and not feel like a baby's room :) I think we accomplished that!

All images are from our awesome newborn session with Paperlily Photography.

Design Inspiration

Oh boy, there's so much inspiration out there these days but I love Anisa Darnell's baby girls nursery from Milk & Honey Home and just any old southern homes as for the elements of the room :)

Decorating Style

My whole house is a mix of modern cottage farmhouse I would say... I love a mix of all three!

Project Details

I had lots of DIY projects! When we moved in, we did the floors.

They are just smooth plywood laid in planked and nailed to the sub-floor & painted white.

I love them! Then once we knew it was becoming a nursery we started on the walls...

There was already a shelf there so we added thin wood strips to create a board and batten look and painted it all White Dove by Benjamin Moore.

The ceiling was this awful popcorn texture so we nailed tongue and groove pieces and painted them White Dove by BM as well! It was about a 3 day project but so worth the vintage old house feel!

The iron bed was a great find on Craigslist for $300! It had a icky gold Venetian paint as well but 10 cans of creamy white spray paint did the trick! (Non-toxic kind).

As for the bedding- I wanted so badly I purchased a linen ruffle set off of Etsy but I couldn't justify $400 for something that would only be used for a year and plus linen is hard to clean and babies are messy :)

so I originally was going to have a lady make one but I was on the way to take the fabric to her and picked up a solid white bumper and bed skirt at a local thrift store for $5- it was made out of muslin which has a linen like look! I took it home and dye it the natural color and added ruffles that I sewed!! the chandelier is from HomgGoods! I found it in their kid section one day for $70!

The rug is from Pottery Barn Kids. The pig lamp is from Cracker Barrel as well as the headband holder. All baskets are from Target! The laundry hamper is from Tuesday Morning. Curtains are from IKEA. Name bunting was made out of letters from Hobby Lobby.

The rocker was a $10 thrift store find. It was a nasty blue gingham so I got it reupholstered for $300- half the price of a PB look a like :) Everything else is thrifted! I think that covers it all! :)

Favorite Items

Ohh that is hard- I really love the rocker. The high sides are great for those sleepy mornings & i can just rest my head against it!

Advice

Be patient.. I can find almost anything I want a thrift store or local Goodwill if I just keep looking. I could have spent a lot more money in here if I bought everything brand new but I saved so much & loved the outcome!

I bought the same basket for my changing pad but it's slightly too short. Did you trim down your changing pad or is it not the standard size? Such a cute nursery!
