This is our interview series in which we bring you the nurseries and kid rooms of successful designers, entrepreneurs and moms. Through this series, our featured guests will divulge some of their design secrets and share stories of how their nurseries came to be.
Phaedra Parks is most often recognized as the sweet and funny entertainment lawyer on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta. The mom of two, television star, author (she just released her book, Secrets of the Southern Belle: How to Be Nice, Work Hard, Look Pretty, Have Fun, and Never Have an Off Moment) and co-host of Phine Body fitness DVDs recently took some time out of her busy schedule to chat with us about her son Dylan’s bold and graphic nursery.
Thank you so much for sharing Dylan’s nursery with us! How is everyone adjusting to the newest addition to the family?
Everyone is adjusting well and loving Dylan.
So many parents express anxiety about introducing their first child to a new baby. Did you include big brother Ayden in the planning process for Dylan’s nursery to help him adjust to the idea of a baby? Is there a special part that he helped with?
We recently moved into a new home, so everything is new and different for all of us. Ayden didn’t really make any significant contributions to the new nursery, except for choosing candy for the candy bar, which is his favorite part of the room.

You worked with Carousel Designs and their interactive Nursery Designer tool. Did you go into this process with a general idea of how you wanted to design the space or did you allow the program to do the talking?
I really allowed the program to help me through the design process. I knew what I didn’t want, but I wasn’t sure of what I really wanted until I began playing with Carousel Design’s Nursery Designer tool. The program is exceptional, and it allowed me to perfect the nursery without leaving my home. I was able to mix and match fabrics with ease and see how they actually complemented and coordinated with each other. When building a nursery, an interactive program is awesome because it allows you to design at your leisure in a stress-free environment.
