Barrett’s Neutral Whimsical Nursery
My husband and I designed this neutral whimsical nursery for our very 1st baby. We had so much fun planning and preparing for our little Bear!

From the moment we moved into our house, I knew exactly how I wanted my future nursery to be. My mother and I thought and planned for hours about how it would all turn out, until she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away before we ever got to see the project off the ground. So many people stepped in and made this nursery the one I had dreamed of and planned for so many years. Everything in it tells a story and has a purpose. It is by far my favorite room in the house.
A whimsical woodland-themed nursery for our baby boy Oliver.
I wanted to create a whimsical and fun big girl Neverland room for my little girl who just became a big sister. I wanted her to be excited about the new space (and not jealous of the baby who would soon be in her old nursery) and help her embrace being a girl girl (toddler bed)! The teepee, tons of accessible books, and fun dress-up clothes and toys around the room, there is endless fun and imagination ahead!
I wanted to create a happy but bright space for our baby boy. I was inspired by the 1960’s vintage sputnik light that I pulled from my grandparent’s home and the rest of the room just followed suit in an eclectic way!
A calming, woodland themed nursery for my soon-to-be-born son.
I did a gender reveal photo session at 20 weeks and was over the moon excited that a baby girl was coming so I knew I wanted a gender specific nursery. I wanted pops of color but a soft palate, I wanted whimsy and feminine, I wanted to mix things that weren’t all in a collection and I hope that I achieved my goal with still being cohesive.
We wanted to create a calm, cozy and whimsical space with natural elements and steer away from primary coloured dancing animals!
There was a LOT of love that went into each and every part of Kinzie’s nursery. Let’s just say, we had some struggles trying to conceive… This little girl changed our lives forever before she even made it into this world and I (we) wanted her to feel the LOVE around her.
From DIY projects (chandelier crystals, creating a special clothing wall display, etc) to adding elements and vintage pieces that gave me such special/happy childhood memories.
When we found out we were having a baby girl, I was ecstatic. I knew I wanted her nursery to be bright, colorful, and full of handmade elements. I have never been a fan of pastel colors, so when I found the adorable fabric this room is designed around, I was really excited.
I started with the selected fabric and designed every other element from there. Everything fell together really easily once I let go of the idea that everything had to be super “matchy-matchy.”
Berkley loves being in her room now–she adores looking at the flower wall!
We knew that we wanted to have a classic nursery that would fit for a boy and a girl, but we also wanted it to be a welcoming, bright, loving room. We started with our budget and worked to find or make each item so that it would fit within our budget. We love this room because it has the perfect combination of DIY touches and other classic accessories.
Creating this room for our sweet baby boy truly was a labor of love! My main goal for the nursery was to create something that was bright and whimsical but not too “babyish”, that way he can grow into it.
Whimsical, colorful and fun! I wanted something that she could grow with and that was extra girly but not all pink.
A few years ago, my friend Minnie Driver asked me to please help her get ready for her son Henry’s arrival… I was happy to play “auntie.”
I wanted a colorful, whimsical, fun birthday for my baby’s first birthday!
With babe #4 on the way, I needed to pair up two of my daughters! I wanted something fun, cheery, bright, and inviting.
Decorating a little girl’s room is absolutely endless — flowers, butterflies, bows…. If there’s an idea out there, we wanted to design with it. So, when we learned we were having a baby girl we knew we wanted to have pink, but we didn’t want to over throw the room with complete pink. Since we also love the color gray as well, the idea was to combine both colors with a white ribbon.
Teresa’s nursery is whimsical and sweet without being too girly. I tried to use different textures and patterns, delicate images and references. We were on a limited budget, but it’s incredible how much you can do! The painting was done by my mother-in-law, the dresser refinished by my husband, and lots of DIY projects. Each project made us so proud! It took time, energy and love to make this dream nursery for baby Teresa.
My whimsical, flight of fancy, gender neutral nursery for my first child.(arriving any second now…)
Given the timing of the baptism right before the holidays, it didn’t make sense not to work in a Christmas theme, so taking the inspiration from the Nutcracker, we opted for shades of pink and silver instead of more traditional reds and greens which gave our winter wonderland a more girly, whimsical feel!
