Baby Ella’s Gender Neutral Bird Themed Nursery

I wanted a nursery for our baby girl that would be largely gender neutral. Neither my husband nor I care for pink very much, and we figured as long as she doesn’t care, and we’ll be the ones spending a ton of time in the room looking around, it might as well look how we want it to!  She’ll be into pink soon enough, despite our best efforts, we’re told! In the meantime, no girlie-girls here!

Graeme’s “Whooo Gives a Hoot” Tree-themed Nursery

I designed this nursery for our first-born son, who arrived April 9, 2012. I chose to use Grey as a neutral backdrop with hits of turquoise, lime green and dark blue. The hard furnishings are not the ubiquitous “ebony” colour, so popular these days; instead I chose to reuse my own birch childhood furniture, and incorporate the birch colour in the rest of the room in the shelves and lighting fixtures. The room is quite small (10′ x 10′), so instead of overwhelming it with too much of the birch, I added elements of white in the crib, glider and shelf brackets. I was aiming for a relaxed version of Mid-Century, 1960’s-Era “modern” style (though the birch furniture is in fact from the 1970’s…).Photographs courtesy of Mike Day: “The Art of Wee Ones”, Toronto, ON, Canada (http://www.theartofweeones.com/aowo/home.php)

Sweet Silhouette Tree Decal

Cute silhouette nursery I painted in Atlanta, Ga.   This nursery will also transition into a toddler room very easily. I wanted to keep the mood light and carefree. The black silhouettes add a bouyant quality to the room that really has a charming effect. We loved it and hope you all will too!  My painted tree is  available as a decal at my website www.anitaroll.com. Or at www.etsy.com/shop/AnitaRoll.

Owls & Birds Gender Neutral Nursery

My husband and I did not want to find out the gender of our upcoming bundle of joy! I started out with a tree wall decal in yellow and green and went from there! I created the paper mobile hanging above the changing table, and note that we did not paint the room (because we recently moved into an all-beige house and weren’t willing to commit to painting all the rooms yet)

Quinn’s Nursery

For my third baby boy I wanted to create a cool, modern nursery different from ones done for my two older boys. The inspiration came from a bird wallpaper print that I found that was great, but way too expensive. I found some amazing decals on Etsy that were actually way cooler than the wallpaper and ordered them in the color scheme I wanted (Black, White, Aqua Blue and Fern Green). We painted the back wall black to offset the decals and the other three walls aqua blue. I added fern green accents throughout the room with the rug, bedding and lighting and mirrored the bird theme on the opposite wall by having decals made for a plain white dresser I found at Ikea. Quinn’s two older brothers painted some small wooden birdhouses from a craft store to line a wall shelf and then I found another large birdhouse made from recycles materials for on top of the dresser. I absolutely LOVE the custom birth announcement canvas I bought from Trendy Peas and the fabric “PLAY” letters are great too. The crib and changing table are from the Babyletto Mercer and Modo collections and the Ikea black and white lightbox provides the perfect soft lighting for middle of the night diaper changes.
