Celestial Inspired Boys Room

This room was designed for a little boy to update his nursery to his “big boy” room.  The bead board wainscotting, convertible toddler bed and dresser were existing.  My client wanted a “celestial” theme that was not too “themey”.  This drove the design in that most (although not all) of the elements of the design were suggestive of the celestial theme, rather than literal.  This is how I prefer to approach children’s room design because it allows the room the grow with the child.  Who wants to completely redecorate every couple of years?!

Little Man’s Airplane Third Birthday Party

My little guy has been obsessed with two things this year: trains and airplanes. Since he told us he wanted to be a Thomas for Halloween, airplane was the winner for the birthday theme as the day falls about 10 days after Halloween.
This year (the whole year) I have been testing and trying dairy/egg/soy free baking recipes. Ahaan is allergic to them but LOVES cakes and cupcakes. Last year, we had ordered a dairy/egg/soy free cake for his birthday. Which made me wonder about baking them at home instead of paying fortune to someone else. So the whole year, I tried and tested numerous recipes.
When his birthday rolled around, I was prepared….more or less. I baked all of the desserts (cakes, cupcakes, cookies and cake pops). I also baked white bread for kids’ sandwiches (since store brought bread has dairy on them).
I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. But I think it turned out good. I was satisfied. I also DIYed a lot of decors and signs to ensure it matched the color scheme I had in mind.
Kids had a blast (I think) and adults enjoyed (I hope). :)

Stella’s Bohemian Chic Room

My daughter Stella moved out of her nursery into her ‘big girl’ room with the arrival of her baby sister.  While she is still in her crib, she sure thinks she is a big girl in this room, which gives her plenty of play space.  I had a lot of fun designing this “bohemian chic” room which uses a light blue and hot pink color palette and lots of fun girly, prints. I  tried to do it ‘on the cheap’ using Craigslist finds and DIY pieces.

Bright Basement Playroom

When we moved into our house a year and a half ago I didn’t have much time to decorate the playroom, and over time it became a mish-mash of color, stuff, and kid clutter. Recently I revamped it with some paint, fabric, new storage, and new play zones (pretend, reading, legos etc.). All of the details can be found on my blog, http://namesakedesign.blogspot.com/2011/05/this-summer-i-plan-to-tackle-four.html.
