Neutral Boho Coastal Nursery

We chose a coastal inspired nursery for my son because of my upbringing in Coastal New England and because we are fortunate enough to live only 1800 steps from the beach. I have always found solace in the sound of the waves crashing and truly appreciated growing up in an area that brought me such peace.
My first job was at Woodman’s of Essex which is famous for their seafood, and is a New England staple. My entire family worked at this establishment as well and we would each say it was of our favorite place to work. We really looked forward to the clam bakes, the local travel and everything that goes along with the lifestyle of living by the beach. We adore this community and hope our son grows up with as much love for it as we have!
My advice to any current or expecting parents is to create something that truly resonates with you and will be meaningful for years to come. I chose neutral tones for the nursery with the consideration that we could one day have a girl who may share the space. I also wanted this room to embody the quaint and charming characteristics of New England that can be appreciated by a boy or a girl, and can be a fun place for them to create memories as they grow up.

Scandinavian Woodland Nursery

Our house is surrounded by woodland and trees so I wanted our son’s nursery to showcase the animals he would see every day. I knew I wanted woodland themed.
I teamed up with Elisabeth from Etsy E Design shop Crowning Joie Designs. Elisabeth worked with me to bring my vision for a woodland themed nursery to life. I had seen Cedar Tree wallpaper on Project Nursery website early on in my pregnancy and LOVED it. This was our starting point/ inspiration and it went from there! the final result is a beautiful, mid century/ modern /Scandinavian /woodland themed nursery and its the nursery of my dreams!
My tips and advice are:
1. invest in affordable design help like Crowning Joie, it is a great idea to do this before you start to spend money… it really helps to have expertise, direction and insight for your vision, an Etsy shop like Crowning Joie is an easy, affordable way to do it. My final months of pregnancy and labour happened during Covid 19 Quarantine so I couldn’t get out and shop. An Online shopping list was key when I couldn’t go out and browse the shops.
2. Start with an item that you love and let everything else flow from there!
My little boy arrived in May and LOVES his room, especially the wallpaper!

Modern Playroom with Rainbow Decals

It seems as though children’s interests change every week, right? Well over the course of the last few months, I was finding that our play time had become less focused and somewhat chaotic. So I decided it was time to take a closer look at the function of our playroom. It all started by rotating some toys out of our repertoire, which we try to do every 6 to 9 months. This allows us to highlight toys that will keep the kids more motivated to learn, explore and play in every stage of their development!
We have a fairly large basement which now functions a million times better for us, thanks to a few space planning tweaks and designated zones; a ‘chef’ nook complete with a pantry shelf for food storage, an activity table for drawing and tea parties, a dreamy camp-out tent and simple storage for books and select toys. We keep puzzles, blocks, art supplies and larger plastic toys neatly put away in a wardrobe the kids can access at any time.
A muted colour palette with some pops of light wood tones is what I envisioned for this space, so am really loving the overall bright yet warm vibe. I worked with most of the pieces we already had and simply added a few unique decor elements to create a more cohesive look. I love the gorgeous lemon, pear and rainbow art prints from Pretty in Print, they are the perfect addition to our little kitchen area! The fun lion head wall hanging brings so much texture to the room. And I just love how these beautiful rainbow wall decals totally transformed the room into an a dreamy space for my little ones! We’re ‘over the rainbow’ about it all…

Gold Bunny Nursery

I was so excited to create this space for our daughter when we moved shortly after her first birthday. I am completely in love with anything gold and pink and wanted to go with this theme. Bunny is a nickname I have called her and once I found the wall decals I thought that would be a sweet nod. Honestly I thought they were going to be incredibly difficult to put up but to my surprise, it went very quickly. My biggest advice, just go for it and don’t let planning on paper get you discouraged. Put them on the wall using painters tape to get a general idea first and then start your measuring and sticking!
My daughter loves forts and tents so I thought a teepee would be so fun. I used a combination of tutorials from Pinterest and came up with this one. Most of the supplies were purchased from Lowes and I just spray painted PVC pipes. I love the gold accents and pompoms. I added the pompoms onto the curtains as well to keep theme going. I can say that she plays in her teepee every day and am so glad she enjoys it!
I have been in love with the Rifle Paper Co print of Washington DC and I felt the colors fit our theme perfectly. We have been living in the DC Metro for a couple years now and I enjoy being able to bring our love for the city into the nursery.

Big Girl Neverland Room!

I wanted to create a whimsical and fun big girl Neverland room for my little girl who just became a big sister.  I wanted her to be excited about the new space (and not jealous of the baby who would soon be in her old nursery) and help her embrace being a girl girl (toddler bed)!  The teepee, tons of accessible books, and fun dress-up clothes and toys around the room, there is endless fun and imagination ahead!
