Mini Nursery in a Master Bedroom

We found out we were pregnant with baby #3 while in the thick of restoring our 120 year old historic home. We didn’t want to undertake the hassle of converting an entire room into a nursery for a little more than a year, so we decided to create a “mini nursery” in the attic dormer of our third floor master bedroom! I really love how it turned out and how we were able to utilize special items like mini cribs and heirloom furniture pieces to make a gender neutral space that works while we need it but can later be repurposed throughout our home.

Jamie’s Sweet Nest Nursery

My little man’s nursery has been the perfect little nest to cuddle, sleep and play in! It’s aqua walls with grass green and brown accents provided us with a soothing, warm yet airy environment in a very small space. Most of the pieces were DIY’d by my husband or me!
Now, my little man is not so little and we’ve transitioned him to a bigger room with a camping theme. (Hence, the toddler bed instead of a crib. I added back the changing pad to show what it was like back when he was little). This room will get a gentle makeover soon for baby boy #2.
Finally getting the pics posted here is my way of saying goodbye to this lovely little room!

Jonah’s Alligator Inspired Nursery

The inspiration for Jonah’s nursery came from the Alligator Madras bedding set from Pottery Barn Kids. After browsing nurseries high and low, my husband and I saw the bedding set, and ran with the idea of incorporating alligators into his nursery.
We had a very small space to work with, and we knew we wanted the room to be as bright, colorful, and cheerful as possible…while making the most of every square inch.
Although the room is small in size, the amount of character we’ve added cannot be contained within these walls :)

Reid’s Brooklyn Abode

Reid’s blue and green nursery is a collection of old and new.  The outfit I came home from the hospital in as a baby hangs framed on the wall, an antique rocking chair sits on the floor, and in the corner is the chair my best friend and I painted in seventh grade.  The wrought iron crib, a big comfy chair, and the changing table were all new purchases.  One of my favorite things in the room are the canvas silhouettes my mom painted of my husband and me when we were children.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn: A Little Nursery For A Little Guy

My husband and I had to carve a space for our son out of our railroad apartment in Brooklyn. With a little ingenuity, we created a budget-conscious, cozy space, custom-designed just for him. Even though it’s a small space, it really works for us, and has the flexibility to evolve as Jules gets older. We’ve already swapped out the bassinet-sized BAM-BAM crib for the full-sized configuration, and it is still a fully functional room, perfect for our growing boy!

Baby in Rented Townhouse

My husband and I were temporarily living in DC when my son was born. Even though we were in a rental, and I knew we would be leaving in a year, I wanted to have a fun nursery. However, I did not want to do a lot of work that would have to be undone when we left. I decided not to paint the walls, but rather cut out white contact paper in tree branch shapes to create a little fun on the blah walls. We were on a very tight budget so all of the furniture either came from Craigslist (DC has a fabulous selection!) or Ikea.

Baby Will’s Nursery

We wanted to create a beautiful nursery for our Baby Boy Will!  Something that was soothing / calm, yet vibrant…sophisticated, but not overly mature.  We used soft colors with bold accents (hello zebra rug!) to achieve this.   Living in NYC, space is tight, so we had to be creative to fit all of the must haves in his room.   Keeping the furniture light in color also helped the room to feel more light and airy.
