Safari theme

This is a woodland theme nursery for my first child, a boy. I wanted to create a space that inspires adventure, love for animals and the outdoors.

My little one loves animals so much so we decided to start a little family project to create a fun jungle themed playroom for her. Her older brother and sister both helped pick out items and shared their ideas to help make it the prefect fun and inviting playroom for her.

Designing our sons nursery originally started with a coastal inspiration. I rushed an placed my order for crib bedding, found the perfect shelves and then we decided to move…. to the country! I really didn’t want to continue with the theme living “out west” but wanted to keep the base items I already had and that’s when I found the most perfect wallpaper foe his nursery! I adore this wallpaper that allowed me to keep the warm, neutral tones and baby blues! I love that it gives me the same feeling our daughters nursery did; it’s not too babyish, room to grow (with them and design projects to come), flows with our house while standing out and just feels calming.
I love wallpaper in babies/kids rooms! It gives you such a great foundation to bring in classic neutral pieces that you can reuse for another baby down the road (his rocker, crib and dresser were all from big sisters nursery!) and it leaves such a fun start to their big kid room!

Boho Safari Nursery

Why?
I have a Spicey 2 year old, thought thru what I could do, and the greys and whites with hints of pink seem to calm her sassieness, all while giving her things to do in her room, such as puzzle at her table, her own private reading corner, and safari images for education.

Mateo’s room is full of DIY projects! I did the board and batten with the built in shelf, I made floating shelves and artwork, I painted the closet and made the white shelf. I also hacked the Ikea dresser with some dark paint and new hardware! My mom made me the beautiful quilt that is in his crib and she gifted me the hand crafter elephant head which is my favourite accent in the room! The print is from Jenny’s print shop and the diaper box was built by my husband. Lots of love went into creating this room for my brave babe. All the heart eyes for shades of green right now! xo

This is a small, simple, safari inspired, and budget friendly nursery that I made for my baby boy. I did everything myself. The nursery is almost done, it needs only a nice rug, and the ruffles under the crib. But I confess, at this point, the weight of the belly makes me easily tired. I made this with my baby boy in mind, so I tried to think about everything that a little boy would enjoy. I wanted to explore numbers, letters, colors, and animals as educational items for the nursery. I hope you enjoy.

This chic and sophisticated nursery was created for Mac.  His parents wanted to do a safari themed nursery for him, but keep it sophisticated so it could grow with him and flow with the rest of their house.

The Ralph Lauren Seagrass wallpaper and sage green walls really set the scene for my sophisticated safari nursery.  I had lots of fun incorporating all the animals in different ways: A Rhino puzzle, life-sized baby giraffe, zebra rocking horse, elephant mobile, monkey jack-in-the-box, animal books and paintings of course. The green shaggy rug resembles the African plains and the white porcelin elephant hooks with the binoculars and vintage safari hat add detail to the theme. The linen chair, mercury glass lamp and Johnathan Adler Morocan pouf to be used as an ottoman were items I already had, but thought they went perfect in the room!  I was super excited about my antiqued pine dresser, matching nightstand and whip-stiched burlap drum pendant that hangs from a thick rope… very “Indiana Jones-ish”. The custom bedding with blue and grey Chevron contrast a swirly masculine paisley with pops of aqua, gray and white. And no nursery these days is complete without some bunting. Pulled all the colors used in the room and had one custom made for the wall.

We wanted to create a beautiful nursery for our Baby Boy Will!  Something that was soothing / calm, yet vibrant…sophisticated, but not overly mature.  We used soft colors with bold accents (hello zebra rug!) to achieve this.   Living in NYC, space is tight, so we had to be creative to fit all of the must haves in his room.   Keeping the furniture light in color also helped the room to feel more light and airy.  

Baby boy nursery inspired by a giraffe cowhide rug.  We started off using neutral colors with pops of blue and ended up with a cozy safari nursery that is peaceful yet playful.

This was a fun project to work on. I enjoyed putting everything together for our third and last child. I wanted a safari theme nursery with a modern twist that will eventually grow with my son.

As soon as I started looking at nurseries, I knew I wanted to paint the room a teal, aqua or sea form color, so I started looking for crib sheets that had those colors.  Once I found the perfect set, everything else just fell into place.

 We intend to keep the boys in the same room for the remainder of the time we live in our townhouse which will be at least 4 to 5 more years so I really wanted the perfect nursery that wasn’t too babyish so the boys could easily transition in it once they reach the toddler stage. Also, I didn’t want to spend a fortune in the process so between bargain hunting and “Do -It-Yourself” ideas I came up with – this is what I created ; -)   

I designed this nursery for my nephew, Cooper.  His parents wanted a simple gender neutral nursery with a subtle safari theme throughout.

I wanted to use a lot of color in our son’s room.  It is a small space and we already had a few furniture pieces to work with, including my great grandmother’s large dresser and small rocking chair.  It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be to find a crib and small dresser to match these pieces!  

While on bed rest for 8 weeks, I had the joy of designing a special room for my little guy.  I am by no means a designer, so this was my first crack and a complete room re-do and I loved every second of it.  I chose the bright colors because I wanted Max to have lots of fun things to look at and explore in his room.  

We wanted something gender neutral, (waited to find out the sex), that would work with the existing character of our 1925 home.
