Modern Boy Jungle Nursery

We fell in love with the wall mural, and the room fell in place around it. I knew if we did a jungle theme the traditional rocker needed to be replace with a swing. The crib bring and dresser put a modern twist on the room while also pulling a natural element with the natural color incorporated. A few elements in the room were DIY including the ceiling light, the elephant bookcase, and the palm leaf name wall hanging.

Max’s Safari Room

After having infertility challenges and finally becoming pregnant with her first baby through IVF, Elyse wanted to create a nursery space that channeled her creativity while providing a calming and inviting space to welcome home the sweet baby boy that she dreamed about for years. She enjoys filling her San Francisco home with high end items sourced on a discount and took that same energy into this nursery project. Elyse enjoys being in the outdoors and loves animals, so she chose a colorful safari theme for her son’s bedroom. The way she designed it made it gender neutral for future siblings to utilize as well. She sourced the main furniture and rugs from Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Outlet, and the bookshelves and end table from Amazon. The statement wallpaper was sourced from Anewall which really brings the safari theme to life! She topped it off with some statement finds from Homegoods, Amazon, Anthropologie as well as custom paintings created by friends and family for a personalized charm.
Elyse thoroughly enjoyed this project and would love to help others create the nursery of their dreams without breaking the bank. Please contact her on instagram @elysecasey or via email casey.elyse18@gmail.com.
She hopes you enjoy this project as much as she does!

Jungle Themed Gender Neutral Nursery

Not knowing the gender of our baby, I wanted a room that a boy or girl would love. I myself love the jungle, so I thought this would be perfect. It started out by finding the wallpaper from my husband and my’s favorite city – Amsterdam. After we hung that up on one wall, everything fell into place! I wanted to stick with white and gold as the main colors, with accents of jungle vibes. I also love dinosaurs, so I through some dinosaurs in there as well – since dinosaurs live in the jungle!

Soft Neutral Nursery

My client knew she wanted something neutral and serene, and she loved animals. She hinted at the idea of a wallpapered accent wall, and of course, I convinced her to wallpaper the whole space.
It took a while to choose the wallpaper since it had to be very neutral and soft, and it also had to have an animal theme (but nothing too juvenile so the wallpaper can last many years). We settled on the perfect pattern that had a hand-drawn feel and was grown-up enough to be versatile.
I chose a gorgeous neutral furniture collection that has a slight rubbed finish to add some warmth and texture to the space. The small iron details also add a touch of masculinity to pair with the very subtle pale blue accents.
Any animal-themed nursery has to have these baby animal photographs, and my client was in love with them from day one. Half the fun is going through all the options and choosing the right combination of animals. Of course, these are framed with plexiglass instead of real glass since they are hanging over the crib, and they are very well secured to the wall.
I love the combination of taupe and gray. It may sound like two neutral tones will compete, but they actually work so well together, especially since the wood flooring has so many variations of color. We also pulled in elements of ivory and white. This is one of my all-time favorite gliders, and every client I’ve suggested it to loves how modern it is while still remaining cozy and comfortable.
This nursery, like most, isn’t a very large room, so I opted to add a mirror over the changing table, which helps to open up the space and bounce light around the room. I love how it reflects the great rope light fixture as well.  Lastly, I always try to sneak in some greenery if at all possible, and these little wall vases were the perfect way to do that!

Hong Kong Safari Nursery

My wife, Sophia, and I were looking to create something special as we are having our first child. As expats from the UK, we recently moved into our new home in Hong Kong and wanted to create a theme for our nursery. We loved the safari animals theme and wanted to pick fairly gender neutral colours, despite knowing that we would be having a girl. We found that mint green, grey and yellow worked well and found some wall stickers from Little Prints that kicked off the idea beautifully.
Working in technology, I felt that it would be nice to add a personal touch and custom designed some matching cushions. We are both keen travellers and finished off our pièce de résistance with a poster of the world map marking both London and Hong Kong on it, so that we can show our little one where we have come from one day!

Carter’s Neutral Modern Safari Nursery

Having just moved in to our new home when we found out we were pregnant, the “someday nursery” needed a plan right away. I knew regardless of gender that I would stick to the same basics as big brother’s room – gray and white. I saw an emerald dresser on Pinterest and couldn’t shake the accent color. If we had a girl I would have added another pop of color/florals to add femininity to the nursery; however I’m blessed to be a “boy mom” so no need to add in another color!
I found the angular animals accidentally while in At Home for some Christmas decor, and that sparked the modern take on a safari nursery. I used the crib and dresser from Grayson’s room and he got an upgrade to a big boy bed.
It was important to me too keep the nursery clean and modern, yet classic. I hope I accomplished combining these opposites.
My dad and husband framed the back wall, inspired also by a master bedroom I saw on Pinterest, although the weekend before Carter’s arrival I almost changed that wall to a faux whitewashed brick wall… someday this could still happen but for now I will keep the classic framing.

Modern Safari Boy Nursery

This is the second kid’s room I’ve had the pleasure to create, my first being for my daughter.  My daughter is very much into rainbows, ponies and all things sparkly and girly.  So this time around, when I found out I was having a boy, I was excited to make a fun, simple and clean (hopefully it stays that way!) boys room.  I had a limited budget, so I scoured my home for furniture pieces that I could use.  The ikea crib was a hand me down from my sister who didn’t need it anymore.  The swivel/rocker chair was taken from my living room (bought originally from Crate and Barrel, I love that it doesn’t look like a typical nursery rocker).  For the furniture items I did buy, I chose not to buy any nursery specific items, so that my son could continue to use them in the future.  I added a lot of storage bins to hold all of the baby odds and ends, but they could also be used for pretty much anything!  I also love grays and blues so I chose those colors as my starting point and threw in some black, white and gold accents.  I stayed away from any specific theme, but I do have some fun safari animals thrown in there.  I learned from having my daughter that her tastes evolved and I’ve added things to her current room to reflect that.  I wanted to be able to do the same for my son, so most of the shelves and picture frames could easily be used for collectibles and prints of whatever he ends up being into as he grows up!
The elephant lamp and woven blue footstool were finds from Homegoods.  The black and white lumbar pillow and felt garlands are from Pottery Barn Kids.  The round bark mirror was a purchase from Pottery Barn a couple of years ago.  Prints are from Lucy Darling, Land of Nod, and Etsy.

Joey’s Blue and Gray Jungle Safari Nursery

I chose a soothing color palette of blues, grays, creams and whites to incorporate the theme of jungle animals! My son’s nursery is a small space, and I wanted to make the most of it. The room is rich with texture and plain expanses of colors and neutrals with pattern mixed in. I had to repurpose a few large items (crib, glider, and ottoman) that belonged to my daughter, so that was the starting point with the furniture. As he grows older and his tastes evolve, the animal accessories and art can be swapped out for “big boy” decorations while the main colors and furniture remain!

Gender Neutral Safari Themed Nursery

This nursery turned out to be such a fun, bright and playful space for my client’s baby girl (but would totally work for a little boy as well)! My clients wanted to incorporate the kelly green crib and natural wood dresser they selected for the space by tying in those sentimental items with a few new pieces.
I knew right away that a gallery wall would be the perfect way to tie in the green crib by using prints with complimenting colors. For the gallery layout, I went with a mix of colors and shapes and then used a couple prints that had the same green from the crib. (Note: the gallery wall was hung with caution to ensure no frames end up in the crib and the clients are planning to adjust bottom row as needed when the baby can stand in crib.
I wanted to go with a rug that also tied in the green crib but was rather subtle and not too much of a statement.
The DIY display above the changing table holds a few supplies and pretty accessories, and I just love how it turned out! We went with a neutral rocker and pouf ottoman to balance out the bolder colors in the room. And of course no room is complete without an organized closet that maxes out storage and has plenty of baskets!

Safari Nursery

When we found out we were having a boy, my husband and I knew instantly what we wanted the nursery to look like.  One of his favorite places in the world is Africa, so we decided to go with a safari theme.
I love Restoration Hardware, so I wanted to make sure it had that same look of sophistication, but also be fun and playful.  I kept saying; it needs to be an Elegant Safari!  I wanted the room to have different shades of grey, but also wanted it to be warm.
The first thing we did was paint the walls.  The color is charcoal slate by Benjamin Moore. Then, because we had hardwood floors, we added a carpet binding to go under the zebra cowhide rug from Joss & Main.
I’ve wanted this exact crib for years, and it worked perfectly.  Both the crib and the changing table are large pieces of furniture and even look a little manly!  I painted the large armoire using two colors of Annie Sloan chalk paint (it use to be green) and then added a wax coat and sanded it.  We took out a shelf, and put in a rod so that it could serve as a small closet – and free up closet space which we really need.
When I first found out I was pregnant, my sister gave me a book called “the Most” by her friend and Nashville artist and author Anna McCoy.  I knew instantly, the animals in that book would make for unique and adorable prints!  I framed them with fun gold frames from World Market.
The glider was handmade by Rio Rockerz in Dallas using a very soft spotted print that reminds you of a giraffe: giving the chair texture, but also easily hiding stains.  Finally, I added a large floor lamp to offset the large furniture.
My husband and I had the BEST time doing this project together. There was so much love put into every detail – I hope it shows!

Noah’s Safari Inspired Nursery

My husband and I are both engineers with a love for outerspace and animals.   When we found out that we were expecting our first baby boy, we started brainstorming names.  It came down to Orion or Noah and Noah won us over.  From that point forward, Noah’s Ark animals became the theme of the room.
We started with room reconstruction to add a door as well as the big pieces including the crib, the glider, and the bookcase which came from our office. After we had the room set up, I started scouting pinterest for DIY ideas as well as Amazon and local stores including Target, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods for art and decor. The Summer Infant bedding came from my mother and drove us to the color scheme with shades of Turquoise, Greens, Browns and a hint of Orange. My favorite pieces are the handmade mobile and lights that hangs above the crib, the giraffe stool, the rug, and the canvas art around the room.
Thanks to my husbands family, we were able to fill the bookcase with many of my husband’s family books and his favorite books from his own childhood in Maryland.
I loved designing and putting this room together. My husband melted my heart when he surprised me with the lantern light that dims after I showed him my inspiration pictures found on pinterest.  I hope that our son grows to love it too!

Everett’s Modern Safari Nursery

We had to fit our nursery into a small room, previously our “den”, which was never used and operated as a “pass through” room to the backyard and pool.  It already had the built-in with bookshelves and drawers, which opens and drops down a queen-size murphy bed, so we had to work around that.  It was completely filled with books and took a lot of work to clear off the bottom two shelves and organize the rest of the books to be appealing to the eye.  We wanted to create a space that is quaint and comfortable for both us and our little one since we anticipated spending a lot of time in there!
