A Buffalo Plaid Navy & Gray Nursery for Braxton!

Looking for inspiration for a farmhouse nursery with traditional style?

This dreamy gender neutral baby room, designed by Ashton Kirby from Port Orchard Washington, delivers a rustic vibe, but with a classic twist.

Ashton took a fresh approach to the rustic nursery trend and created the sweetest little abode for her new baby Braxton!

Timeless pieces give the room a refined edge that brings warmth, texture and a relaxed vibe.  Our soft Gray Buffalo Plaid Crib Bedding and a tufted glider add to the traditional look of the room.  However, the navy ship lap wall, beaded chandelier and metal name letters give the room its farmhouse feel.  The white Storkcraft Bayview Crib has classic style, clean lines and anchors the room.  Perfect for a farmhouse styled nursery.  An ottoman in the nursery is a must have and just the spot for relaxing tired feet.

When designing a rustic baby room, you don’t have to go full out with red plaid, dark woods and woodland decor.  A simple farmhouse nursery decorated with classic styling can create a cozy and warm space for your baby, and can easily blend in well with the rest of your home’s decor.

The breath-taking navy blue ship lap wall is the perfect backdrop for the white furniture, soft plaid baby bedding and nursery decor.  The deep shade of blue makes the crib and framed artwork pop.  Endearing framed wall art from Hobby Lobby features a gray watercolor style elephant design with a popular message:  “Dream Big Little One”.

The plank ceiling, with its natural texture and charming style, can warm up any space!  Keep it clean with bright white paint.  The wooden beaded chandelier from Wayfair takes center stage, and adds a dramatic touch.  A soft toned area rug provides subtle aztec influence.  Rustic floating book shelves are handmade by Braxton’s daddy!

The gray tufted glider from Wayfair anchors this corner space and adds a perfect spot for bedtime stories.  The white toy chest was made by Ashton’s grandfather for her when she was a little girl!

We think this nursery is the perfect combination of sweet and simple.  Everything about this room is oh-so-chic!   A gender neutral nursery is a great choice, if you are planning for another child.  The decor and bedding will easily transition for the next addition.  You can always accent the room with other non-neutral decor.

Navy Modern Boy’s Nursery

This boy’s nursery is modern with clean lines and a masculine feel. We had to get creative with placing the furniture in this design because the room is triangular in shape. The color palette for this nursery is primarily white and gray. For a bit of contrast we added navy details throughout the room. The client fell in love with a super versatile crib in white with acrylic details. We opted for a custom dresser with a changing table tray to get the perfect fit and color. One of my favorite pieces in this space is the light-colored modern rocking chair, which is compact yet comfortable. We used mixed metallics in this space so the chrome base of the rocker ties in with gold detail on the side table. Even the cozy textured gray rug has metallic details. The storage bench with a surprise pop of color doubles as additional seating. We installed two white shelving units on both sides of the bench for a peaceful, symmetrical look and a display for decor and toys. The major statement penguin photograph was a favorite of my client! It makes for a playful artistic focal point and I love that is versatile enough to grow with the child and space.

Navy and Gray Adventure Awaits Vintage Nursery

When my husband and I found out we were expecting a boy, we were ready to convert our guestroom into a nursery fit for a little boy without making it all too gender specific. I had so many ideas for my son’s nursery but I knew I would be working with a little space. The goal was to create a peaceful, serene nursery with lots of neutrals and still have touches of blue.  Therefore, I chose a calm color palette of greys and whites with a few navy blue accents. There wasn’t necessarily a theme set in stone, I really just wanted to incorporate several gifts that were either made or gifted by family members. I wanted to incorporate a weathered look into the decor since the crib was a vintage looking piece passed down from my niece. I had to refinish a few furniture pieces such as the glider to fit into my overall vision. Ultimately I was completely in love with this tranquil space. My husband built the bookshelves, which worked perfectly for this tiny room. I love that the decor turned out to be elegant, serene, and useful.

Baby Emmett’s Navy and Gray Nursery

I wanted to create a fun nursery for our first baby that can be easily converted into a little boy’s room and the furniture (specifically couch and/or rug) can possibly be used in other rooms as well. We choose navy and gray as our main colors and chartreuse as an accent color. We ended up using different shades of light blues as well.
I loved Sissy and Marley wallpapers so that was one of the first items we choose. The crib and dresser came from Oeuf, and many of the accent items from Blabla Kids and RH Baby. The sofa, side table and rug are from Design Within Reach. I took time to research and carefully select each item. Later we decided to add a plant. My husband loved the idea of a fiddle leaf fig. To have something else green in the room, I found the bunny in the green overalls.
We had our baby on December 7. We love being in the nursery with him. The room is very peaceful and there is enough seating so that my husband and our moms can also be in the room with us at the same time.

Nautical Nursery in Gray, Navy and White

When we found out our baby was a boy, I knew the nursery would be nautical. We used anchors on our wedding invitations, and I love the crisp, classic feel of white and navy. I also knew I loved the clean, bright look of white furniture in a nursery. We already had some nautical decor items in our guest room which I was able to move into the nursery, meaning we spent less on new accents. Finally, I wanted the nursery to have a more sophisticated vibe, and not feel too “babyish” or cartoony. Of course our budget wasn’t going to allow furnishing the nursery from PBKids, but their style was definitely a big inspiration.
Lessons Learned designing our nursery:

An inspiration board is worth your time Taking the time to make and filter an inspiration board on pinterest allowed me to see what images I kept coming back to, and the similarities between them. I was able to define our nursery style and be more focused about what items to spend on to get a unified look.
Save big with used items Craigslist is a great source for nursery items. While resources I read discouraged buying a used crib, there are many other items available. We found our PBKids wall-mount book rack for a fraction of the cost new, and I have also seen gliders and bedding sets available.
Open a credit card and stack discounts If you are looking to purchase a larger furniture item, opening a credit card at Babies R Us is an amazing way to save money. We were able to add our glider to our registry, then open a credit card and receive both a registry completion discount and new credit card discount. Combined with gift cards received at showers, this made it possible for us to purchase our glider.
The Clearance section is your best friend  Confession- I am extremely indecisive. I could spend hours looking at the nautical decor at T J Maxx trying to decide what would work best and where. Second confession- I am all about a good deal. So, while I would like to say it was impeccable taste that helped me choose these items, the truth is that it was often about price. Just a few of the items I found on clearance – starfish artwork (no way would I pay $59.99!), blackout curtains, lantern, canvas boat artwork, navy and white oar, driftwood whale wall art, side table (It was originally golden yellow but a steal at $29.99 then I just spray painted it gray).

Noah’s navy blue and white nursery

We wanted to make the nursery a place cheerful room full of love for our Mr. Noah. We were on a relatively tight budget, so a lot of DIY and TLC went into many of the decor items (sewing stripes on the Ikea curtains, making a bedskirt {not pictured}, a homemade mobile over the changing table, DIY art over the crib, sewing a fabric bunting for over the closet…). The result is a room we are happy to call Noah’s!
