A Lighthearted Lord of the Rings Nursery for Rohan

12 years ago, Seth and I had a Lord of the Rings themed wedding, where we celebrated this story we’re all caught up in in my parents’ beautiful backyard. Today, as we’re preparing a place for our first baby, it only made sense to revisit that theme, especially as we plan to name our baby Rohan, which is both a name we love the sound of and a subtle nod the hope and redemption that Rohan represents in The Lord of the Rings.
We wanted to keep the room lighthearted and not overly literal, so we sought to mix all the neutrals with bright and modern colors and accents, simple shapes and clean lines. The Nelson Lamps hint at sunlight and moonlight, while the wall decals from CooCooDecal and paper birch branches from Crate & Barrel give it a forest feel without making it look too rustic. To add some color to the room, we were delighted to find these modern Lord of the Rings prints from May + Baz on Etsy, which use simple shapes and child-friendly colors to represent the various realms in Lord of the Rings, and we mixed in a healthy dose of modern toys and accents.
We’re so happy with how the room has come together. We realize we’ll need to make some tweaks to make it a little more childproof down-the-road (the Expedit bookcase was already in the room and difficult to move, but might not be a bad place for storing baby things in the future, the Nelson lamps are fragile), but at the moment, there’s no room in the house I’d rather spend time in, and I hope Baby Jewski feels the same!
