Up Up and Away

The rest of our house is contemporary with clean lines and neutral colours. Our decor is minimal and simplistic. We wanted to carry this design into the nursery, so we used clean lines and natural wood tones to create a modern, gender neutral nursery. We chose a hot air balloon and airplane wall decal to go with our aviation theme.
I believe that it’s important to design a room that makes getting up (or staying up) every 3 hours a little more bearable.

Mountain Adventure Nursery

When my husband and I found out we were going to have a baby, we immediately started looking for nursery ideas on Pinterest. We had DIYed most of our wedding decor and stationary, so it was only a natural progression that we would DIY our baby’s nursery! We were committed to not finding out the gender before the baby was born, so we’d need a design that could work for a boy or a girl.
After browsing through a plethora of pictures, we decided on a theme of “adventure.” We wanted it to embrace the feeling of the movie “Up” without it being “Up” themed. We had a book about the art of the movie and started with that when choosing a color palette for our endeavor. We wanted the room to be bright and cheerful, above all other things.
After painting all the walls with a fresh coat of sky blue, we started by painting a mural of mountains on the wall that we were going to put the crib against. My husband sketched the mountains on the wall in pencil and then I went back with a small brush and painted the detailed sections. Next up was replacing the old carpet with hardwood floors and an amazing rug I found online. We painted an old dresser from my childhood with ombre yellow paint and some fun new glass knobs. Model hot air balloons were hung from the ceiling above the crib to give the impression that they were flying high above the mountains. The finishing touches were pictures on the walls and a pegboard station above the changing table to make changing diapers a breeze!

Little B’s Travel Themed Nursery

I started collecting ideas for a travel-themed nursery well before I found out that I was pregnant. My husband and I both love to travel and can’t wait to share our adventures with our children someday. We had a great time selecting the items for the room and putting everything together. Hopefully, this room will inspire our little girl to go out and see the world!

Amara’s Travel Nursery

We wanted Amara’s nursery to reflect two of our favorite things: travel and reading. Almost every piece in the nursery came from our own travels and all of the books are books from mine, my husband’s, and my nephew’s childhood, making every part of this nursery especially meaningful.
At the same time, we wanted this nursery to transition with our daughter as she grows older so we converted the walk-in closet into a mini playroom that she can use as her own play nook when she’s older. We used neutral white fixtures and furniture so that she can decide on her own favorite color for her room as she gets older.

Percy’s Nursery

Percy’s parents wanted us to design a fun quirky little boys bedroom. They wanted the room to grow with Percy and move away from the baby’s room. They love colour and so do we, so we added wallpaper and hand painted a window mural which i think adds a personal touch. Overall they were very happy with the room and so were we. Hopefully Percy enjoys the room as much as we have styling it for him :)
