Soft Safari Baby Blues

Designing our sons nursery originally started with a coastal inspiration. I rushed an placed my order for crib bedding, found the perfect shelves and then we decided to move…. to the country! I really didn’t want to continue with the theme living “out west” but wanted to keep the base items I already had and that’s when I found the most perfect wallpaper foe his nursery! I adore this wallpaper that allowed me to keep the warm, neutral tones and baby blues! I love that it gives me the same feeling our daughters nursery did; it’s not too babyish, room to grow (with them and design projects to come), flows with our house while standing out and just feels calming.
I love wallpaper in babies/kids rooms! It gives you such a great foundation to bring in classic neutral pieces that you can reuse for another baby down the road (his rocker, crib and dresser were all from big sisters nursery!) and it leaves such a fun start to their big kid room!

Modern Boy Jungle Nursery

We fell in love with the wall mural, and the room fell in place around it. I knew if we did a jungle theme the traditional rocker needed to be replace with a swing. The crib bring and dresser put a modern twist on the room while also pulling a natural element with the natural color incorporated. A few elements in the room were DIY including the ceiling light, the elephant bookcase, and the palm leaf name wall hanging.

Max’s Safari Room

After having infertility challenges and finally becoming pregnant with her first baby through IVF, Elyse wanted to create a nursery space that channeled her creativity while providing a calming and inviting space to welcome home the sweet baby boy that she dreamed about for years. She enjoys filling her San Francisco home with high end items sourced on a discount and took that same energy into this nursery project. Elyse enjoys being in the outdoors and loves animals, so she chose a colorful safari theme for her son’s bedroom. The way she designed it made it gender neutral for future siblings to utilize as well. She sourced the main furniture and rugs from Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Outlet, and the bookshelves and end table from Amazon. The statement wallpaper was sourced from Anewall which really brings the safari theme to life! She topped it off with some statement finds from Homegoods, Amazon, Anthropologie as well as custom paintings created by friends and family for a personalized charm.
Elyse thoroughly enjoyed this project and would love to help others create the nursery of their dreams without breaking the bank. Please contact her on instagram @elysecasey or via email casey.elyse18@gmail.com.
She hopes you enjoy this project as much as she does!

Organic Gender Neutral Nursery

I wanted a gender neutral nursery for our baby boy who is going to share this room with his older brother! That’s why the table with two chairs is a must have. I loved the calmness of the neutral colors and the bohemian vibes. Very inspired with hyacinth, rattan and seagrass details! The Babyletto Crib is probably my favorite piece in the room, along with the neutral tone giraffe plush!
I wanted a seagrass changing basket but had a changing pad from our first son’s nursery. Here’s a trick! We purchased an underbed storage basket, placed the changing pad inside and voila! No need to purchase a new changing basket.

Charlie’s Neutral Nursery with Feminine + Fun Textiles

The moment I found out that we were having a baby, I began to envision my dream nursery. Whether we had a boy or a girl, I knew that I wanted a neutral space that would be warm and inviting. Most of all, I wanted our baby’s nursery to be unique. When we learned we were having a girl, I remember thinking I finally had an excuse to install a fun patterned carpet or wallpaper in the house! Heck, I would have made it an excuse with any gender! FYI: I chose to do both!
We designated the smaller of our two guest bedrooms as Charlie’s future nursery and got to brainstorming! I knew I wanted feminine textiles with greige tones and a pop of gold to add warmth. I sat in the floor on countless occasions drawing out varying floor plans and furniture layouts that I thought would work best with the structure of the bedroom and provide for an easy transition from nursery to toddler room. This room has high vaulted ceilings embellished by richly stained wooden beams, so my first thought was to add a chandelier that was large enough for the architectural build, yet still delicate and inviting. In fact, the chandelier was the first item I purchased – shout out to Wisteria!
Cue the carpet craze: I was dead set on a leopard or cheetah print carpet and had quite a bit of convincing to do with Charlie’s Dad! While I wanted a bold print, I still wanted a versatile soft hue. After browsing dozens of animal print swatches, we decided Carpet One’s style “Dosso” was the perfect fit. Not too loud, not too edgy and not too busy. Out of the five color options available for this style, we ultimately chose the most neutral tone: “Shilling.” The soft gray undertones of this color helped create a subtle richness for the entire space without overwhelming the eye. And did I mention it’s the softest carpet I’ve ever laid feet on?!
Designing Charlie’s nursery was not free of difficulties! Charlie’s room had a bit of an odd layout in that there was a single window on the main wall to the far right. Because I wanted her crib to be centered on this wall, that lonely window made for an unfortunate placement. As a solution, we brought in a paned floor mirror from Shades of Light and placed it on the left side of the main wall which, in effect, mirrored the window on the right (pun intended!). Then, we situated a large chest in front of the mirror and window to the left and right of the crib. This allowed us to make the layout of the room appear more symmetrical. We added some gold curtain rods with crystal hardware and hung linen blackout curtains pulled to the side to truly give off the appearance of a second window in the room. As a finishing touch to the main wall, we centered a gold sunburst mirror above her crib. Crystal table lamps from RH Baby & Child adorn the tops of her chests to compliment the crystal finishes in her curtain rods. Speaking of chest tops, if you’re looking for a tabletop monitor for the nursery, I must recommend Project Nursery’s 4.3″ Baby Monitor which syncs with your cell phone through an app via wifi! The sleek neutral white camera blends great with Charlie’s room color palette (and it plays the cutest nursery tunes).
On the opposite side of Charlie’s room we added a comfortable linen Glider, petrified wood stump side table and floor lamp to create a cozy corner for reading books. We placed an oversized antique armoire next to this for housing her growing book collection and threw in some light woven baskets on its shelves to store smaller items such as bows, beanies, slippers, muslin blankets and bibs.
Lastly, since Charlie’s nursery was originally one of our two guest bedrooms, it actually shares a jack and jill bathroom with the other. Since we still needed a designated diaper changing space, we decided to transform this to her own personal changing station. And who am I kidding, our jack and jill needed a serious face lift – so all the more reason to revamp! We chose a fanciful neutral woodland style wallpaper, hung two elongated mirrors from Restoration Hardware above the sinks to give the small space an expanded feel and then added a feminine vintage-style wall sconce in the center. We keep Charlie’s diapers hidden away in the drawers beneath the sink and her changing pad sits perfectly nestled on the countertop between the two sinks. And hey, when you’re changing a dirty diaper, two sinks is better than one. Am I right?!
I hope you all love her nursery as much as we do! It has officially become my favorite room in the house! xo

Mateo’s Safari Nursery

Mateo’s room is full of DIY projects! I did the board and batten with the built in shelf, I made floating shelves and artwork, I painted the closet and made the white shelf. I also hacked the Ikea dresser with some dark paint and new hardware! My mom made me the beautiful quilt that is in his crib and she gifted me the hand crafter elephant head which is my favourite accent in the room! The print is from Jenny’s print shop and the diaper box was built by my husband. Lots of love went into creating this room for my brave babe. All the heart eyes for shades of green right now! xo

Classic Gray and Blue Safari Nursery

For Clark’s nursery I wanted to create a space that was elegant, calm, and totally different from his brother Sawyer’s room. We moved Sawyer into a different bedroom and used his old room (and furniture) for the baby, so it was important to me that Clark’s room be unique and not feel like a hand-me-down. I was going for a “classy safari” feel, but I didn’t want it to be too “theme-y.” The prints above the crib were the first thing I found that I knew I wanted in the room and the rest just flowed from there.

Annabelle’s Nursery

I spent a lot of time imagining the perfect space for my little baby girl. I wanted something soothing but colorful and fun. I knew I’d be spending a lot of time in the nursery in the coming months! While I was pregnant I did everything from the painting to woodworking projects with my dad to make the space special. It turned out just how I imagined and I love playing with baby Annabelle in the room every morning!

A Cub’s Personal Savannah

The couette cover represented a Family of giraffes, so we decided on  painting the sky  and the trees to create an open sky, savannah effect. We add some decals of savannah animals, a wooden giraffe and a few other items to bring everything together. We added the circular red mat to just pop some madness in there and get away from the safe coordinating colours and as usual for some reason the madness always works. We then added some red siblings in the form of the baskets etc.

Archer’s Animalistic Nursery

When I found out we were having a baby, I knew – boy or girl – I wanted to use Sharon Montrose’s photographs in the space! They are just so, so cute. But, more than cute, I wanted the nursery to be a comfy, cozy spot for Baby K, which meant Aden + Anais linens. The giraffes were perfect and – again – the linens would work for either gender. After the 20 week ultrasound, when we knew we were having a boy, I looked for ways to subtly introduce some “boyish” charm. The multi-tonal triangles were born (pun intended).

DIY Neutral Aqua and Grey Nursery

My husband and I did almost everything in this nursery including painting, putting up the chair rail, and installing the crown molding. I had so much fun designing it, and my husband helped make it a little more kid friendly by contributing the monkey idea. I love how tranquil the room came out. We love to hang out in here, and it is a great place to rock and read at bedtime.
