Baby Sister’s Nursery

This is our second girl’s nursery. We just moved to a bigger house so each girl could have their own room, but little sister’s room was all the furniture from her big sister, Charlotte’s, nursery. We are lucky enough to live near the west elm, pottery barn, and crate and barrel outlet stores in Lancaster, PA so all of the furniture from those stores were bought on sale at the outlets. I wanted this room to feel like it was a brand new room for the baby, so a lot of the decor is new. She has all new knobs on everything, a new mirror, and new arch decals for the wall. I tried to keep things simple and clean with this nursery.

Boho Girl Nursery

I was first inspired when I saw the Sandie Mural wallpaper from Anewall. It looked like sort of an abstract sunset to me and I love the muted blush, peach and yellow tones. My mom (who passed away when I was young) loved sunsets and they’ve always reminded me of her and made me feel close to her, so that felt right too. I also wanted to sprinkle in some rainbows since our sweet girl is our triple rainbow baby, and I thought that would go well with this vibe. I then got a crazy idea to put the wallpaper on the ceiling instead of on a wall. I fell in love with the Fela Tassel Chandelier from Anthropologie to pull in the boho vibes and the rest of the nursery centered around the ceiling as the focal point. I already had the blush pink dresser that I refinished a few years ago (painted Sherwin Williams White Dogwood) so I decided to paint the wall opposite the dresser (that the Jenny Lind crib would be on) that same blush pink. I already had the grey rocker (Amazon) from my first baby as well. I then pulled in more boho vibes with accent pieces – dried floral wreaths from @modsugardesign on Etsy, mirror from Anthropologie, curtains from Nordstrom, rug from Rugs.com and bookshelves from Amazon. The beautiful clay wall hanging was handmade by my friend @century_clay and was the first item I got for my baby girl.
Installing the peel and stick wallpaper on the ceiling was a little tricker than putting it on a wall, because gravity is working against you instead of with you. You definitely need a second person to help hold it as you put it up. It took my husband and I about 3 hours when I was 2 weeks postpartum, so it’s still not a huge project. I have done several installations of this wallpaper on walls previously though.
Tips for decorating on a budget: I purchased the Anthropologie items during 30-40% off sales. I got the crib and dresser second-hand, and purchased more affordable accent pieces. I generally choose 1 or 2 focal items (in this case the wallpaper on the ceiling and the chandelier) that I splurge a little on and then save on the other supporting pieces.
I’m so in love with how the nursery turned out! I love staring up at the ceiling as I’m sitting in the rocker feeding her. It brings a smile to my face every time I’m in there, and I hope it will for my daughter as well.
