West New York, NJ Eclectic Nursery

My daughter’s room was inspired by my past travels and my eclectic aesthetic. I started with a neutral wall color, then added a Kilim rug, which I bought in Instanbul, and peppered the same colors form the rug around the room. Most of the furniture is either in white wood or natural woods. The leather pulls from the ikea dresser was my own diy project. The painting was commissioned by an artist taking the colors from the rug and the tassel wall hanging was made by her mom.

Mila’s Sweet Boho Nursery

As a new interior designer and first time mother, when I found out I was having a baby girl I was beyond thrilled and wanted to take the opportunity to design the feminine nursery of my dreams! It was the perfect excuse to embrace my love of the color pink and use gold accents.
We also recently move into a new home, which we renovated, so our budget was tight. I was able to complete the nursery for under $1500! I purchased the crib, dresser, glider, and rug from All Modern and most of the decorative pieces from Etsy, Ikea, and Home Goods. I was also able to repurpose a few items I had in the garage and used some great flea market finds.
My vision for the nursery was to make it a little bohemian, glam, unique and comfortable…which made the result very eclectic, in my opinion. I also wanted it to be adaptable, if we decide to make a change or not to use so much pink in the future, it’s an easy switch since the staple pieces are neutral and all wall decals are removable. One of my favorite elements in the nursery ended up being the chandelier. Originally I intended to use a pricey gold urchin pendant that was beautiful. However, due to budget constraints I ended up going with a very affordable fixture from Ikea and I love it! It feels very light and airy, and perfect for a whimsical nursery. Another favorite of mine is the dresser. I didn’t like the stainless knobs that originally came with it and I searched all over to find just the right replacement. Eventually I saw these cute wooden knobs in the clearance section at Home Goods and snatched them up immediately. I love the clearance section.
There is so much to worry about and plan for when expecting a baby, it’s nice to have been able to complete the nursery of my dreams and know that I didn’t “break the bank.” We can’t wait for our little baby Mila to arrive in January!

Baby Viklund’s Cool, Calm & Eclectic Nursery

My husband and I wanted this nursery to be calming, inviting, neutral and to resonate with who we are as we welcome our son into our family. We also wanted something that our baby boy could grow into with pieces that he can use after his infant months. The nursery has a glass door that opens into our living room so we also wanted a space that would vibe with the rest of our home.
For the first half of my pregnancy this room was hosting 5 tiny foster kittens that we had taken in! Once they were all adopted we began the transformation starting with the walls, which we painted white over the taupe color they were.
I am a former-teacher and now full-time artist so most of the art in the room was created by me (with the exception of the abstract horse canvas above the chalkboard which was created by Denver artist Carrie Fell). We also included an easel to add additional artistic flare and a space where our son can eventually create art as well.
Both my husband and I are passionate about education (he is also a former teacher) & social justice (he is now a social-worker) so our son’s library collection was very important to us. We created a book wall to showcase some of our favorite books. We hope these books build a love of literature and are also books that we can use to teach him to value and honor the perspectives and experiences of those who are different from him.
Our home has a lot of its own character, having been built in 1926. We have a gallery wall in our living room that houses sentimental and meaningful pieces of art, photos, and items that represent who my husband and I are individually and as a couple. We want our son to be able to showcase who he is  as well so we started a gallery wall space above his dresser that leaves room for him to add on to it as he develops his own passions and interests.
Last year for my birthday my husband gifted me a 1960s vintage record player. One of our new favorite hobbies is to hunt records and listen to our favorites on the record player. We included a simple record player into our son’s room in hopes that he will enjoy the same pastime with us. We have already stocked his collection of records with some great 1960s Disney vinyls & one of our dear friends found him a wonderful Fisher Price vintage-style record player that he can tote around as he gets bigger. We love the eclectic vibe this brings to his space.
Finally, my husband and I are big Oklahoma City Thunder basketball fans, so we incorporated small things into his room that didn’t scream “sport’s team brand” but also represented our love for our favorite sports team and the city we live in. I lettered the “Why Not?” poster above the rocking chair to add some Thunder flare & we found a plush Russell Westbrook doll that we just couldn’t pass up.
We think this space is calming and eclectic and we look forward to welcoming our baby boy home in a few weeks and getting to know him.

Anders’ Eclectic Nursery with a Blend of DIY and Vintage

A lot of parents try and go for a theme in their nursery and my husband was no different – he wanted the muppets. Well after a lot of discussion I convinced him to trust me on my design and he is very glad that he did. I didn’t want a themed room or a “baby” room. I love designing rooms that will easily transition from birth to teens and the character of the room can easily be updated with ever changing interests. There is only one window in the room so I went with a soft creamy white and to add some drama a navy blue striped wall – I love that the stripes all vary in size – and then we added one green stripe that extends all the way around the room.
I love all things vintage and refurbishing furniture. The dresser was perfect because it belonged to my uncles 70 years ago and then my brother and now my son. It’s from Ethan Allen and in great shape. I stripped the stain off of it and re-stained it navy blue and added vintage looking water faucet knobs from Hobby Lobby. The rocking chair is also a refurbished piece that a friend did for me. I continued with the blue and green theme with the curtains and fabric on the rocking chair. Feeling like a needed a little pop of color, we added the vintage lantern lamp in red, an old red trunk and a abacus for a touch of yellow. All vintage pieces that fit so well with the room. The shelves were a DIY project that my husband installed based off of some inspiration photos I found on Pinterest. I love how they add a slight rustic/industrial feel. My Husband got his Muppets with some contemporary prints that my sister created for us (she’s a very talented graphic designer and amazing photographer)! The art above the crib was another DIY project. We found an old map of the world, I bought some wooden letters from Michaels, painted them red, glued them onto the map and my Husband built a frame for it. We do a lot of reading with our son so the shelves are littered with books. The toy boxes and the whale rocker are my designs that my husband makes come to life (I’m so lucky!). And the changing table was an amazing space saver and an easy project. My husband again built the base and then installed drawer hinges from Lowes and it will hold up to 100 lbs. It has been great! Really, the only thing that was new was the crib. Everything else was refurbished or custom designed and built by my husband and I.

Mid Century Jungle Nursery

Hi! I am Amanda Louise Campbell of Amanda Louise Interiors and I am a Decorator in Greenville, SC. I got to help my sweet client create this space for her new baby boy. She wanted the space to have Midcentury elements and an animal theme. We used an eclectic mix of new items, custom pillows and window treatments, vintage finds, and family heirlooms to create a meaningful space to welcome this boy boy home to. We also tried to make sure the space could transition well from baby, toddler, to full blown boy. We love this space and hope for it to inspire others.

Lilly Rose’s Eclectic Garden Nursery

Originally, I was torn between two nursery themes: a simple clean modern nursery or a girly vintage chic one.  When I imagined the things I wanted to put in her nursery, many held sentimental value, and it became an easy decision.  I realize now, I probably went about designing her room backwards…but in the end, fell in LOVE with it!  I found the rug first, at TJ Maxx on clearance($99)…..but it was really hard to find bed linens that matched or did not take away from the beauty of the rug.  So my first DIY project was to make her bed skirt from a tonal brown striped fabric and some pom pom trim….when I say “make” it, what I mean is….iron some pom poms onto fabric with stitchery witchery and then attach it underneath the mattress with some safety pins. Her lime polka dot sheet is a cheapy from Target, and I added some bows to the bed as well….safely attached of course! A good friend of mine made her a gorgeous crochet blanket that matches her rug beautifully, it is really a piece of art!! Her bed($600) was the BIGGEST splurge for her room, and if I’m being honest it’s much nicer than my own!  It’s a convertible crib from Pottery Barn that should last until she decides to leave the nest!  Her dresser ($200) was from a vintage shop as well as the mirror($80).  I chose the rocking chair ($450) because it gave me a little bit of the modern feel, AND it was a neutral color, AND can be repurposed into another room later on.  Her curtains, are from Target ($40)…..I know of at least 3 more people that bought them for their nurseries after seeing mine….they had 3 or 4 different color ways.
Her ladybug mobile over the changing table was given to me by my husband over 15 years ago, he knows I like ladybugs…..it’s perfect because all gardens need ladybugs!  My Aunt gave me the Christening dress which I hung by the mirror because it was too beautiful to hide away in the closet.  Speaking of closet, it’s one of my favorite things about her room, a nice colorful surprise when you open!  I made the clothes organizers myself, and the center  of the flowers on the organizers are buttons my mom collected along time ago. Also in the closet are a couple of baskets ($30) from TJ Maxx to house extra bed sheets and clothes she outgrows. I made her a Name frame which hangs on her door, and used more of my mom’s buttons for the butterflies! I love making things…the little canvas with elephants as well as her framed Letter “L” above the bed are my creations too.
All the elephants in her room came from TJ Maxx…..her book rack is from there as well. My Aunt gave her the cute Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Sign.  She has some doilies which you cannot see from a couple great grandmothers in her room as well.  And lots of books from when I was a child.  Even though these are merely “things” I like to think they have been passed on with lots of LOVE!
All in all, her nursery was under $2,000…not a low budget room, but also not excessively expensive.

Hailey’s Eclectic Nursery

The inspiration for Hailey’s room was the Marimekko tapestry that hangs over her crib. From there, we wanted to create a modern and eclectic nursery with elements that she could grow into. Several elements are pieces that have been passed down in our families, which we then balanced with newer elements. The color palette is light gray, white, and pops of bright oranges, purples, and pinks.

Gender Neutral Eclectic Nursery

When I was a mama-to-be, the designer in me focused on the nursery as if it were the most important project of my career, and it became the epicenter for all baby preparedness. I mulled over every detail, including the furniture, color scheme, fabrics and accessory choices. My husband and I chose not to find out the gender of our bundle of joy until the day of birth, making the project that much more difficult. Traditionally families visit a baby superstore, select a theme and flood the space with pink or blue decor. And while those tactics are well suited for many new parents, I was determined to create a unique, gender-neutral space. Instead of selecting a theme, I focused on creating an eclectic nursery, which gave me the ability to change the idea of what a nursery should look like.

Quinn’s Stokke Sleepi Inspired Nursery

I usually stick to a theme, but this time (the 4th nursery I’ve designed for my own kids), I decided to add any and all colors that caught my eye and pieces that I gravitated towards. There’s a hint of a theme in the sun, clouds and rain pieces – “you are my sunshine”, but it’s mostly reminiscent of favorites, including all of my favorite children’s books, favorite art that my older children made for me and the baby and my favorite colors.

Eclectic Gender Neutral Nursery

I really wanted to do something special for this nursery.  This is my third baby, and when my first two were born we lived in a tiny New York apartment with a closet for a second bedroom.  So I was never able to really create the nursery I wanted.  This time around, we are now in a house, with an actual room.  We decided to be surprised with the gender of the baby this time, so I wanted to utilize colors that would work for either a boy or a girl.  When I started the project, I thought it was just going to be grey and yellow, but I started finding some really cool pieces in turquoise and coral, and loved the way those colors complemented the yellow and grey.
