Decals

We live in and love Colorado so we wanted to create a room that illustrated the natural beauty of the state. We already had a red wall, so it seemed natural to place aspen decals on it. I was raises on a love of foxes and was often sung A Fox Went Out On A Chilly Night so it was important to have that shown in our theme. We kept things more “adult” and less baby, so our son could grow into the room. And reading is something we want our child to love so we used the corner in the room to make a book nook where we can change the latern over it at any time. Friends and family gave us many children’s books to fill the ledges. One of the grandfathers made the crib out of 25 year old maple so it fit in perfectly.

We wanted to be surprised the day our baby was born so we designed this gender neutral nursery. I am a little bit of a procrastinator and the night before our scheduled c-section I was hanging and filling the shelves that I built. Once our son was born we added a few little boy touches.

This is a design for a special young man that loves baseball. We were approached by his mom to help create a magical space that a 5 year old would enjoy but not outgrow in a matter of a year!!

This baby girl nursery was created for a small space using convertible pieces in warm neutrals with  pink accents.

Colorful modern baby boy giraffe safari nursery

I had many different ideas and possible themes for our baby’s nursery (just check out my Pinterest Boards and you will see for yourself!)  I DID know that I wanted to use peach and coral colours for a girl’s room though, so once we found out we were having a baby girl that is where we started.  From there I got a few inspirational pieces (such as the image of the little girl eating the peach and the pair of little ceramic baby shoes) and I collected items that we already had from my childhood and from around our house (such as the quilt, the cradle, the ballerina music box, my knit and stuffed animals friends etc.) and her room started taking shape. Once I started my various handmade and DIY projects  her peaches and creme, feminine antique nursery with birdy accents really started coming to life.  Most of the projects in this nursery are handmade DIY projects and lots of the furniture we got for free, or on Kijiji, and re-vamped them to freshen them up and make them fit with the nursery.  This was definitely a nursery on a budget, the retail value of the larger items in the room would have come to around $1600 but we only spent $200 on all of those items!! So hopefully this nursery is inspiring and an example that you can create a really cute nursery on a budget!

Designed a nursery for my new baby girl arrival. Elephant themed gray and hot pink with green accessories. Made cushions for glider to match theme. Painted dresser two different shades of gray from original wood color. Added vine for wall decor.

Colorful Treetop Friends

When we found out we were expecting a girl, I instantly knew I wanted the colors to be gray and pink. I have always loved birds and thought that this little girl’s nursery could be sprinkled with birds as well (although I tried to stay away from too many birds…like the movie “The Birds”).

Light, Bright, and Fun!

This room was decorated when Leonor turned 6 and went to primary school. She needs a place to do her homework and has a lot of toys and books. So everything was organized so that she can sleep, play, study and read. Everything she likes to do. She spends there a lot of time playing with her sisters. As the room is quite small, the majority of items were custom made.

K’s nursery was pieced together with the intention of creating a fun, whimsical, “make me wanna smile” space to enjoy.  My husband and I love to spend time in the nursery with our little man and we think (hope) he enjoys it as much as we do.
