DIY Kitty Cupcake Toppers for Less
I had the privilege of hosting a dear friend’s daughter’s birthday at Satsuma Kids Shop recently. The theme was kitties and we went for it! With lots of delightful kitty theme birthday supplies found on Etsy and party supply shops like our local Party City, I wanted to round out the mix with a handmade token of fun.
As the birthday theme featured sweet gray kitties, I wanted to find matching cupcake toppers to adorn our favorite cupcakes from our friends at Cafe Javasti in Seattle. I did some research and found that the only gray kitties ran $10 per dozen, which was more than I wanted to spend with the other decorations I had in store.

I turned to my craft supply bin and started pulling materials.

My small oval paper punch was the perfect kitty shape and would work well for puppies too! Next, I went to my scrap paper magazine holder. I use Ikea’s FLUNS paper magazine holders for all of my paper and 9″x12″ packaging supplies.
I found the back of an old notebook that was the perfect color gray. I also pulled a piece of pink and green card stock to use on the back of my gray kitty cupcake toppers. Here’s what you need to make your own kitty cupcake toppers

Gray card stock | My favorite paper store Impress Cards and Crafts in Seattle has the best selection of card stock for just $.49/sheet. If I didn’t have supplies on hand, I would be set for $1.
Coordinating pink, white or other color card stock for backing (optional)
Oval paper punch in whatever size you like. I used a 1 5/8″ punch bunch paper punch.
Scissors
Black ink pen – I use Sarasa pens in a .7 tip
Colored pencils
Toothpicks
Glue stick or hot glue gun
Narrow ribbon (optional)
Tulle (optional)

Here’s how to make your own kitty cupcake toppers
Start by punching out your kitty faces and back. Make as many as you need and then make some more! They are adorable and cute to send new ones home as party favors.
Now cut little ears from your gray card stock.
Draw your sweet kitty faces on the gray ovals. Use my examples as a guide, but be true to your kitty self and make them your own.
Now slather glue on the back of the kitty face and apply the ears carefully.
Place your toothpick or lollipop stick in the center of the kitty face and place the back onto the face.
Press the front and back pieces together to ensure that the glue is holding.
Add ribbon bows or tulle bows as desired.
That’s it! Enjoy your kitty cupcake toppers. I know your little kitty will!

Back to School…this phrase has been a constant for me for most of my life. Many may not know, but I was an elementary school teacher. When I created this party package, I was inspired by bright bold colors and cute craft projects. This theme is young at heart, but it can still please an adult eye with its clean graphic patterns. I wanted a colorful, whimsical, fun birthday for my baby’s first birthday!

Hello Again! As if my Wilhelmina’s “Fabulously Theme-less Nursery” wasn’t enough, I decided to go for a “Fabulously Theme-less First Birthday” to celebrate our glorious first 12 months with our girl.  We decided to throw a fairly simple party, on a beautiful November day, in the shade of the trees in our side yard. Our home is right next door to a neighborhood park so it was an ideal location for all of W’s friends to join us for some cupcakes and BBQ and a fun day of playing in the park.
 
 
 

One of our most memorable moments of 2012 was our daughter, Harper Rose’s 1st Birthday Celebration! Although a nod to her first 365 days of youth, we wanted this celebration to be about all of us, and the fact that we made it through the first year of parenthood!
Her birthday is in the dead of summer here in Arizona so options are limited! I began brainstorming a few days before the event… HA! Kidding- I pretty much started brainstorming our first night in the hospital. If you can’t tell by now, that kind of move is all my style! We came up with a Dive- In Movie theme where our adult friends could lounge in the pool and stay cool and our friends with kids could enjoy the movie on the big screen; we were thinking beautiful summer night, huge projection movie screen, swimming, floaties, movie candy and concessions and ice cold Kool-aid (and adult refreshments)!

While looking at Project Nursery for nursery ideas, I saw the parties that people were also posting. So, naturally, when my little guy was going to turn 1, I consulted this site again, looking for ideas. For some reason, monkeys have been a theme with him, so I chose to go that route. I liked the “Mod Monkey” theme but instead of buying that party themed decor, I designed everything myself using digital software.

I helped design this party with my business partner for her little girls 2nd Birthday.

Olivia loves the zoo so I teamed up with my friend and designer Erica Praschan (of Erica Praschan Interior Design) to create a beautiful party for her second birthday.

For Sylas’s First Birthday, I created a DIY Sock Monkey Themed Party.

A pinwheel themed second birthday party. The main colors were pink and aqua, with accents of white and yellow. 

We wanted a fun circus party for our son and his friends and family. We tried to stick to our color-scheme as much as possible (aqua, red and splashes of yellow), as we wanted a more summery blue than traditional circus blue. All circus favorites were present: cotton candy, popcorn, balloons and carnival games!
