Zeb’s Monochrome Big Boy’s Room

Being a tomboy as a child, I was so excited to find out that my first-born was going to be a boy. I mean, after spending my childhood, jumping out of trees and playing with matchbox cars, I thought I’d be at a loss if I had a girl (although turns out I do just fine!).
Up until late last year, we were renovating an older house with the view of selling it so poor Zeb didn’t really get a nursery. Seriously! All he had was his cot (and later toddler bed), some drawers and a bookcase! So, obviously we were both excited when it was decided that Zeb’s room would be the first room to be done.

Chase’s Black, White & Yellow Nursery

Introducing a bold, black and white nursery with punches of primary colors. When it came to my second child, I could no longer pull off that dreamy, soft and serene nursery. Instead, I worked with lots of primary colored toys, hand me downs and his big brother’s nursery furniture. We also happen to be moving to an NYC apt in just a few months so it was also important for me not so spend a lot of time or money on this project.

Family At Play

Do you recall the chalkboard playroom walls from the other week? Well here’s a real family enjoying them! I recently exchanged emails with one of the fabulous “Material Girls Blog” Designers, Jill Seidner and she kindly shared a fun, chalkboard inspired playroom she designed for a Los Angeles family. When the Coleite Family hired me, they’d just purchased a new home in Los Feliz. Given the house had a large great room, they opted to convert the living room to a playroom. It was actually a good choice as the two main entrances to the room can be closed off by double doors. We painted, mixed in their existing furnishings, turned book cases into storage for toys, added the Flor carpet tiles, the chalkboard paint is always a fun touch, and voila: the formal living room became a great big playroom! It works for them & gets a ton of use – probably more usage then most people’s living rooms ever do! – Jill Seidner Client: Coleite Family Age: 2 girls, ages 4 & 1
