Colourful DIY & Vintage Adventure Boy Room

As we are lucky enough to have a playroom elsewhere in the house, our boys’ bedrooms (see also Jesse’s Rustic Vintage DIY Boy Nursery) were intended to be spaces where they can enjoy some quiet time: reading, dressing, sleeping, hanging out. That said, we used to have a rug in here, but the floor has become such a transformative space for play and imagination that the rug now lives beneath a tepee in the playroom and the floor is bare so that it can be covered in whatever ‘worlds’ our children decide to make.

Big City Nursery

When I first met Grace Kang Gavric to go over the details of what she might want painted in Adrian’s nursery, the final bedding choice had not been made.  Grace was down to two options and her husband, Nenad, helped weigh in with the final choice which was the Skyline bedding from Dwell.  They wanted something boyish, fun and modern.   I have to admit I was totally inspired by the choice they made.  I tried to create a really fun, interactive room that Adrian can grow and learn in for years.  I have to thank my friend and Atlanta designer, Sommer Saracevic’ for referring me to Grace and Nenad Gavric.  Adrian’s room was a joy to paint.

VROOM VROOM 1st Birthday

-The dessert table consisted of the main cake, cupcakes in custom 3d checkered wrappers topped with lollipop like signs that read a few different things, marshmallow pops individually wrapped and tied with a knot, and candy in just the colors of the party! -The favors were these amazing cookies in the shape of a #1, but frosted with the race car theme. These were also individually wrapped with a personalized thank you tag tied to hot wheel cars. -The “Winner’s Circle” is where the cake eating/smashing started. A cardboard black and white checkered mat was placed under the highchair with a banner above. The high chair had its own personal banner and held the personal cake & custom hat. -The water bottles all had personalized black and white checkered labels with a gas pump on them and read fuel. -The birthday boy wore a shirt with a black and white checkered #1 on it and his name. The big bro wore a shirt that read “pit crew”

Vroom, Vroom! Are you ready for a fun ride? We just love a good party success story so when Project Nursery reader Sarah filled us in on the amazing car-inspired birthday party she dreamt up for her son Jack’s second birthday we were so excited to learn all the details. Deciding on a theme for the party was easy for Sarah since Jack is quite obsessed with cars at the moment, but making the feel a bit more classic-car and less “Cars” the movie was a little challenging. Sarah definitely pulled it off and the entire party from start to finish was so adorable and fun we just had to share it with all our Project Nursery readers. The kid-friendly food included car shaped PB&J finger sandwiches, carrot dippers with ranch dressing and honey wheat pretzels. Sarah also found some old-fashioned milk bottles and created straws with car-shaped cutouts for the kiddies. So cute! It is always a good idea to plan some sort of activity for the kids to do and Sarah came up with a great finger-painting art project. She says, “I made each child an art smock to wear using iron-on transfers. And I also printed off a personalized matte with each child’s name and cut out a window in the shape of a car. The kids got to work finger painting and their lovely creations got framed behind the matte.” Now that is a party favor parents can appreciate too! Thank you so much Sarah for sharing Jack’s party with us! What a terrific success, you should feel proud. For all the details and more photos of this adorable party visit Sarah’s Jack and Izzy.
