Laila’s Floral Carousel Birthday Party

My daughter loves anything with horses (neighs as she calls them). When thinking of themes for her second birthday, I thought a carousel theme would be perfect for a little girl’s second birthday. I decided to add a floral element to the party and chose theme colors of pinks, purples, and gold.
There were many DIY projects for this project. My husband, mother in law, and I made the carousel centerpiece. We decorated a wreath with flowers and greens to serve as the top of the carousel and to add another floral element. I made the floral letters from paper mache letters, foam, and silk flowers. All of the banners were made by me using me cricut. I designed a wall of paper flowers with a handpainted gold glitter frame and a number 2 in the center. I bought paper fans from the target and decorated those with paper flowers. Cookie jars wrapped in raffle tickets served as vases on my mantle. My sister in law designed all of the signs for the party and all of the favor and food tags.
For food, we served fun finger foods. We had a slider bar, mini hot dogs, tater tots and mac and cheese. For dessert, we served cupcakes, carousel themed cookies, pink chocolate popcorn, and trail mix. As a favor, we gave kids bubbles, cotton candy on sugar cones, and custom wrapped candy bars.

Carousel of Dreams Birthday Party

I adore carousels and thankfully my little one does too! Her first ride at 5 months, was at Pier 39 in San Francisco. A couple of years ago, I saw a beautiful carousel styled dessert table for a Mary Poppins party, and I knew at that moment that one day I wanted to create my own for a carousel themed party. Creating the table was certainly a labor of love! I cannot remember how many hours my husband and I spent at Home Depot trying to perfect the design and measurements, cutting PVC pipes, looking for the right cutting tools, etc.
Some of my favorite details were:
-Designing my daughter’s dress and invitations
-Finding peonies at the flower market out of season!!! after calling several vendors without luck
-Photos of her riding various carousels in carousel frames
The DIY elements were:
The carousel table using poster board, PVC pipes, ribbons, spray paint, printed horses on foam board, and my amazing sister-in-law, Nancy’s, and brother-in law, Brian’s, Silhouette Cameo to cut several motifs for the edges, with digital files bought on Etsy.
Flower arrangements, with flowers from the San Francisco and Oakland flower markets
Cotton candy cones, cones painted with Wilton Pearl Dust in white and pink
Her Party hat and invitations
Spray painting carousel photo frames found on ebay.
