Daniel’s Big Boy Room | Cars, Cars + Cars

My sweet boy, Daniel, is three and a half and recently became a big brother!  As we were decorating the baby’s nursery, we decided to update his nursery to make it a big boy room….and included him in *some* of the decisions.  His pool blue + lime green nursery was featured on Project Nursery three years ago – it was a preppy, fun room centered around my love of graphic patterns – so I thought it would be fun to share the “big boy” update!
We left the shell of the room the same – the fabulous Thibaut wallpaper feature wall, blue walls, striped rug.  When he outgrew his crib/toddler bed and it moved into his baby brother’s nursery, we replaced it with a twin size bed from Pottery Barn Kids.  I purposely decided to order both boys furniture from Pottery Barn Kids all in the same finish (white), so that the pieces could be swapped out between them in the future, or even placed in the same room as they get older.
Like most three year old little boys, Daniel has a love for all things CARS!  So when he got to weigh in on his decor update, he wanted cars, cars and more cars.  I decided to oblige and we infused cars into a few key places: the oversized print over his bed, the artwork over his dresser, and we added a little table corner for playing games and added two ledge shelves to house a few of his matchbox cars to play with up there.

Mauricio’s Race Car Birthday

My boy is obsessed with cars. Not the movie, not NASCAR, but top of the line, exotic cars which he calls “race cars”! He literally can name any brand of vehicle there is, even I can’t believe it sometimes. So since he loves his Hot Wheels, I envisioned a “race car” themed party featuring only one type of car, — a Porsche — along with my favorite color combo and chevron pattern.

Little Red Car Birthday Party

I wanted to create a very simple car theme party for Luca with the idea of the movie ‘Cars’ but not using that exact theme.  Making the car red added a nice pop of color against the shades of white, gray and black.  I kept thinking about Route 66 and came up with adding his age inside the route sign.  Then it was fun to think of names to coordinate with all the desserts and drinks.  Such as ‘Fastlane Fruit Punch’ and ‘ Vroom Vroom Vanilla Cupcakes’.

VROOM VROOM 1st Birthday

-The dessert table consisted of the main cake, cupcakes in custom 3d checkered wrappers topped with lollipop like signs that read a few different things, marshmallow pops individually wrapped and tied with a knot, and candy in just the colors of the party! -The favors were these amazing cookies in the shape of a #1, but frosted with the race car theme. These were also individually wrapped with a personalized thank you tag tied to hot wheel cars. -The “Winner’s Circle” is where the cake eating/smashing started. A cardboard black and white checkered mat was placed under the highchair with a banner above. The high chair had its own personal banner and held the personal cake & custom hat. -The water bottles all had personalized black and white checkered labels with a gas pump on them and read fuel. -The birthday boy wore a shirt with a black and white checkered #1 on it and his name. The big bro wore a shirt that read “pit crew”
