Mini Nursery in a Master Bedroom

We found out we were pregnant with baby #3 while in the thick of restoring our 120 year old historic home. We didn’t want to undertake the hassle of converting an entire room into a nursery for a little more than a year, so we decided to create a “mini nursery” in the attic dormer of our third floor master bedroom! I really love how it turned out and how we were able to utilize special items like mini cribs and heirloom furniture pieces to make a gender neutral space that works while we need it but can later be repurposed throughout our home.

DIY Nursery on a Budget

This nursery has been a huge DIY project! It was a lot of fun putting together and has allowed us to save a lot of money! (Which is kind of essential when welcoming your first born… We quickly realized that babies require A LOT of things for such tiny humans). Here’s how we did it…
While window shopping for baby things, I fell in love with the Lolli Living Sparrow crib sheet and skirt. In that moment, I knew that they had become the inspiration for our little girl’s nursery. We wanted neutral colours on the walls and white furniture so that the colours in the crib set and accessories would stand out.
We purchased used furniture that we refinished ourselves. The amount of money saved by purchasing used furniture allowed us to splurge on a fabulous new glider!
We bought natural pine tongue and groove wood panelling from our local hardware store which we stained and installed ourselves (it only cost $50 compared to the $400 it would have cost if we had opted for the barn wood).  With the leftover panelling, my boyfriend made the decorative wooden arrows, which I then painted with the leftover paint from the side table we refinished.
For the decorations, I created the artwork “You are our greatest adventure”, had them printed and framed. I bought the letter “E” from our local art supply store and painted it pink. I also bought a picture ledge to display a few books that were given to us as gifts. The cool mirror comes from the dollar store and the canvas is a photograph of our cats that my mom had printed and gave to us last year (we FINALY found a place for it).
All in all, it was a lot of hard work (mostly for my boyfriend since I was telling him what I wanted and he had to do most of the handy work… LOL) but it was totally worth it and a lot of fun!

Wesley’s Yellow and Gray Elephant Nursery

I wanted to design a room that would be perfect to grow with our baby boy, nothing too babyish but still very fun. I love the neutral, gray color scheme and adding in a pop of color with the accents (that could easily be changed out at a later time). There is still a lot more I want to incorporate into the room (a rug and more DIY decor projects), but with my due date fast approaching this will be an ever-evolving project!
